Wallace, Hall Named First Team All-Western State Conference

VC freshmen Kayla Wallace and Haley Hall headlined the Pirates' women's water polo All-Western State Conference honorees, both earning first-team accolades. Wallace, a Rio Mesa High School product, ledthe WSC in steals, was fourth in assists and fifth in exclusions drawn. Hall, who hails from Royal high School, was third in the conference in saves.

Sabrina Cherfane led Ventura (14-14, 3-4) with four goals and Golden finished with three as the Pirates advance to Friday's WSC semifinal against No. 1 Santa Barbara at Citrus College in Glendora.

The Pirates' women's water polo team split a pair of Western State Conference matches Friday at the Ventura Aquatic Center to finish the regular season. VC fell to Cuesta 8-4 in the first contest of the day before defeating LA Pierce 14-4 in the nightcap under the lights. Katia Flores had an outstanding day with three goals, three assists, two drawn exclusions and eight steals in the two games for the Pirates (13-14, 2-4).

Wednesday, the Pirates gained a measure of redemption with a 12-5 victory over the Monarchs in Western State Conference play. The Pirates' comeback bid came up short in the opener, a 7-6 loss to LA Valley, before they dropped a 10-7 decision to Palomar in the second match of the day. Behind a solid and balanced performance, the VC women's water polo team claimed two victories to open the truWest Battle at the Beach Tournament in Long Beach Friday. Ventura came from behind to defeat Grossmont 12-10 in the opener before besting Pasadena 15-9 in the nightcap to win their pool. Sabrina Cherfane netted seven goals to lead the Pirates while Kayla Wallace pulled in 11 steals defensively to lead the way. The Pirates have now won six of their last seven matches.

The VC women's water polo team traveled to Glendora Wednesday, dropping a 14-5 decision to Citrus in Western State Conference play. Ventura Ends Perfect Weekend with Two More Wins

It was the perfect ending to the weekend. The VC women's water polo team closed the Ventura Tournament with an overtime win and a blowout victory Saturday, sporting a perfect 4-0 record for the tournament at the Ventura Aquatic Center. The Pirates (9-10) defeated Palomar 9-8 in double overtime in the morning match before routing San Diego Miramar 12-5 in their tournament finale. Sabrina Cherfane had six goals on the day while Kayla Wallace and Kelsey Golden netted five and four scores, respectively.

Pirates Win Two to Open Ventura Tournament

The VC women's water polo team came from behind twice Friday to produce a pair of victories on the first day of the Ventura Tournament. The Pirates trailed El Camnio 3-2 at halftime before posting the 7-6 win, and they were behind Cypress 6-3 at intermission before shutting out the Chargers in the second half to post the 8-6 win. Sabrina Cherfane led with five goals in the two games while Kayla Wallace had three goals, three assists, four drawn exclusions and seven steals for Ventura (7-10).

The Ventura College women's water polo team had a strong effort Wednesday afternoon at Santa Barbara City College in the Western State Conference opener for both teams. The Pirates jumped out to a 4-0 lead, and had an 8-6 halftime advantage before ultimately falling 15-12. Kelsey Golden scored seven goals with three steals in the game to lead the Pirates (2-7, 0-1) and Kayla Wallace scored twice with four thefts.

VC (2-4) put up a valiant fight but were outmatched by Golden West 10-4 in the opener before falling to Orange Coast 16-7 in the second game of the day. Kayla Wallace had three goals with four drawn exclusions and eight steals on the day while Kelsey Golden scored three times with four steals, and assist and one exclusion.
