Spikers Keep Roll Going at Pasadena Quad

The Pirate volleyball team continued its early season roll Friday with a pair of 3-0 wins at the Pasadena City Quad. Ventura defeated Antelope Valley 25-10, 25-17, 25-11 before sweeping past Citrus 25-12, 25-19, 25-20. Sophomore Amelie Zubia showed the Pirates' depth with a team-high 28 assists on the day while Nevada Knowles and Kayla Murdoch continued their strong play. Autumn Rojelio Moreno anchored the defense with 27 digs in the two matches.

In the first match of the day, the State's No. 4-ranked team easily dispatched the Marauders in three. Knowles had nine kills with 11 assists, nine digs and a pair of aces and Katey Mulville recorded five winners. Rojelio Moreno had 11 digs defensively with two aces and Zubia hit eight assists. Jocelyn Montoya came off the bench to secure two services aces, as well, and Ana Medrano hit three winners.

Ventura continued the momentum with another sweep in the day's second contest against Citrus College. Zubia was setting well with 20 assists and she recorded five services aces. Murdoch was strong at the net with 15 kills and a .458 hitting percentage and Knowles continued to be a stat-stuffer with seven kills, 13 assists, three digs and two blocks. Rojelio Moreno was solid in the back with 16 digs and Averi Carter recorded four kills, seven digs and a pair of aces.

VC (8-0) returns home on Wednesday Sept. 14 to host College of the Desert at 6:00 pm.
