Women's Tennis Named ITA All-Academic

The VC women's tennis team earned All-Academic honors from the Intercollegiate Tennis Association for the 2023 season. Their 3.56 overall grade point average qualified them to be one of 23 collegiate teams nationally, one of six California community college programs, to make the list. The Pirates also had seven players named Scholar Athletes by the national coaches' association.

Lieb and Elaerts Advance in The Ojai in Singles and Doubles

Ventura's Talia Lieb and Nell Elaerts advanced in the CCCAA State Singles and Doubles Championships in both draws on Thursday in The Ojai Tournament. The pair posted a victory in the Round of 64 in doubles play after each moved forward with wins in the Round of 64 in singles.

Ventura's Nell Elaerts played a strong game at No. 1 singles and also had a solid effort with Alexis Schmidt in No. 1 doubles in VC's playoff loss at No. 1 Orange Coast Tuesday.
Women's Tennis Puts Up Fight in Loss

The shorthanded VC women's tennis team put up a solid fight at Orange Coast Tuesday, but fell 5-0 to the Southern California Regional's top seed. Ventura, the No. 7-seed, played without two regular players in their first playoff appearance since 2012. Nell Elaerts came back from a 4-0 deficit in No. 1 singles and dropped her first set 6-4 when OCC clinched the match while Alexis Schmidt was ahead early playing up at No. 2 before trailing 5-4 when play ended.

VC freshman Talia Lieb advanced to the semifinals in the WSC singles tournament before bowing out on Saturday. She also teamed up with doubles partner Nell Elaerts to move into Tuesday's WSC doubles final.
Lieb & Elaerts Advance to WSC Title Match

Talia Lieb and Nell Elaerts continued their strong play Saturday, advancing to the championship match in the Western State Conference doubles tournament with a semifinal win. Meanwhile Belladora Moga and Laura Rubio qualified for state with a victory in the backdraw. In singles play, Lieb moved into the semifinals before bowing out of the draw and Elaerts won her backdraw match to qualify for state.

First year player Alexis Schmidt won her first singles match in the WSC Championships 8-0, and paired with Elizabeth Nguyen to advance a round in doubles play Thursday at the VC Tennis Center.
Women's Tennis In Play at the WSC Championships

The VC women's tennis team remained in play Thursday at the Western State Conference Singles and Doubles Championships with the duos of Talia Lieb and Nell Elaerts and Alexis Schmidt and Elizabeth Nguyen recirdunbg wins to advance in doubles play. Meanwhile, Belladora Moga, Schmidt, Lieb, Elaerts and Laura Rubio are still alive in the dingles draw.

VC's Marcie McTigue teamed up with Dee Emami to win in No. 3 doubles, then won in No. 5 singles as the Pirates defeated Santa Monica 8-1 on Tuesday.
Pirates Win Regular Season Finale

The VC women's tennis team won their regular season finale 8-1 at Santa Monica on Tuesday. Marcie McTugue and Dee Emami collectively gave up one game in capturing their doubled match and their individual singles matches. Nell Elaerts, Belladora Moga and Laura Rubio were also double winners against the Corsairs.

VC Women's Tennis Sweeps Antelope Valley

The Ventura College women's tennis team rolled to a 9-0 sweep over Antelope Valley Thursday at the VC Tennis Center. After three easy victories in doubles, play, Belladora Maga clinched the win in No. 4 singles and Laura Rubio closed out the sweep with a hard fought triumph in the No. 6 match.

VC's Nell Elaerts was a double winner Thursday, winning in No. 1 doubles with Talia Lieb and capturing her No. 2 singles match as Ventura defeated Canyons 6-3.
Strong Singles Play Sends Pirates to Victory

The Pirates' women's tennis team won five of six singles matches Thursday, narrowly dropping the sixth, to come from behind to defeat Canyons at the VC Tennis Center. Talia Lieb and Nell Elaerts were each double-winners, winning their No. 1 doubles match and prevailing in Nos. 1 and 2 singles, respectively. Elizabeth Nguyen clinched the victory for Ventura (4-4, 4-4) with her win in No. 5 singles.

VC freshman Belladora Moga was one of three Pirates to win in both singles and doubles without giving up a point in Ventura's 8-1 win over Santa Monica.
Pirates Love Win Over Santa Monica

The VC women's tennis team claimed an 8-1 victory over Santa Monica Tuesday at the VC Tennis Center. The Pirates swept two doubles matches and four singles matches without giving up a game in easily defeating the Corsairs. Alexis Schmidt, Belladora Moga and Elizabeth Nguyen all were double winners for Ventura (3-3), all holding their opponents to "love" on the scoreboard.

The VC women's tennis team dropped a contest at Bakersfield Tuesday, 6-3. The Pirates' Nos. 1, 2 and 3 singles players, Talia Lieb. Nell Elaerts and Alexis Schmidt all won their matches, but Ventura (1-3, 1-3) could not find any other points during the day.

The Ventura College women's tennis team fell in a closely-fought 5-4 decision Thursday against College of the Canyons in Santa Clarita. Talia Leib and Nell Elaerts won in No. 1 doubles, then each won their singles matches and Marcia McTugue also won a tight No. 6 singles match for the Pirates' four points.
