Women's Tennis Takes on Modesto & Fresno on Road Trip

The VC women's tennis team made the long road trip to the Central Valley on Friday to take on Modesto and Fresno City in a two-match day. VC fell to Modesto 6-3 in a battle of Pirates before being edged out by FCC 5-4 in the second match of the day. Sylvie Van Cott and Erin Gaynor each won a pair of singles matches and two doubles contests to lead Ventura (3-5, 2-1).

In the opening match of the day, VC dropped a close 6-3 decision to Modesto Junior College with Van Cott and Gaynor earning all of the VC points. Van Cott won her No. 1 singles match 6-0, 6-2 while Gaynor won at No. 2, 6-1, 6-1. the pair also won their No. 1 doubles contest 8-2.  Tanya thompson and Alyssa McClain dropped a narrow decision at No.2 doubles, 8-7 and Dee Emami fell by a score of 6-4, 6-0 at No. 6 singles.

In the nightcap, the Pirates were even closer with host Fresno City College, falling 5-4. Van Cott once again was dominant at No. 1 singles with a love and two victory and Gaynor won her No. 2 singles match, 6-1, 6-1. The duo repeated their success at no. 1 doubles, winning 8-0. 

Victoria Zegers won her No. 3 singles match 6-2, 6-1 before teaming up with McClain, falling in a close No. 2 doubles match, 8-6. Isabella DeRosa lost in No. 4 singles, 6-2, 6-4.

The Pirates will return home for their season finale on Thursday May 6 hosting Santa Monica College.
