Women's Tennis Wins Season Opener at Cerritos

The Ventura College women's tennis team won its 2020 season opener by a 6-3 margin at Cerritos College. Sylvie Van Cott claimed victory in the No. 1 singles slot and partnered with Aline Rojas to win in No. 1 doubles. Rojas also won in No. 2 singles. Allison Jones and Isabella DeRosa were also double-winners, winning together in No. 3 doubles and capturing Nos. 3 and 6 singles, respectively, for the Pirates (1-0).

Van Cott blanked her opponent in No. 1 singles, winning love and love while Rojas won in No. 2 singles 7-5, 6-4. The duo triumphed in no. 1 doubles 8-4. Meanwhile, Jones won her No. 3 singles slot love and one while DeRosa captured a close-fought contest in No. 6 singles, 6-3, 2-6, 12-10. They also won in No. 3 doubles, 8-0.

VC begins Western State Conference play on Tuesday Feb. 4 at Santa Barbara.
