Pirate Women Continue Play at WSC Championships

The Ventura College women's tennis team fared well on the first day of the Western State Conference Singles and Doubles Championships Friday. They had four players advance to the round of 16 in single splay at Ventura's Camino Real Park while two doubles teams advanced to the quarterfinals. No. 11-seed Allie De Marco did not drop a game in her love and love win in singles while No. 5-seed De Marco and Alyssa Powell had a strong opener to move into the quarters in doubles.

Pirate sophomore Lea Meschke was a double-winner Monday prevailing in No. 1 singles, and with Allie De Marco in No. 1 doubles, as the VC women's tennis team defeated Canyons 7-2 in Santa Clarita.
Ventura Women Bounce Past Canyons

The Ventura College women's tennis team got their spring break off to a good start Monday with a 7-2 victory at College of the Canyons in a make-up of a March 13 rain out. Lea Meschke led four double winners for the Pirates (10-7, 6-4) with a love and love victory in No. 1 singles and an 8-1 triumph with Allie De Marco in No. 1 doubles. De Marco was also a double-winner with a victory in No. 2 singles.

VC Women's Tennis Sweeps Past Victor Valley

On a sunny and cool spring day, the Pirates' women's tennis team swept past a shorthanded Victor Valley team 9-0 Thursday at the VC Tennis Center. Ventura (8-7, 6-4) was able to play eight different players, four in singles and four in doubles, with all coming away with victories against the visiting Rams.

Pirate Women Fall at Cerritos

The VC women's tennis team ran into a buzzsaw Friday, falling to host Cerritos College 9-0. The doubles teams of Alyssa Powell and Allie De Marco (No. 1), and Lea Meschke and Jule Lauinger (No. 2) each took a game in their respective match, while Meschke (No. 1) and Powell (No. 2), avoided shutouts in singles.

Shorthanded Pirates Fall to Grossmont

Playing without three of their regular players, the VC women's tennis team fell to visiting Grossmont College 7-2 Saturday at the VC Tennis Center. Alyssa Powell was leading in her No. 2 singles match 2-1 when her opponent was unable to finish due to a knee injury. Then, in doubles, Powell and Lea Meschke won in the No. 1 slot, 8-0 for the second point for VC (6-4, 4-2).

Ventura Takes Down Corsairs in Women's Tennis, 6-3

The Pirates' women's tennis team traveled down the PCH Thursday, bringing a 6-3 decision home from Santa Monica in Western State Conference action. Allie De Marco and Tricia McClain led the Pirates (6-3, 4-2) with love and love victories in Nos. 3 and 5 singles, respectively. De Marco and Alyssa Powell also posted a shutout 8-0 win in No. 1 doubles.

Women's Tennis Takes Two in North/South Challenge

The VC women's tennis team claimed two victories Friday on the first day of the VC North/South Challenge. The Pirates (4-2, 2-2) defeated College of the Sequoias 6-3 in the morning match before besting Fresno City College 5-4 in the evening contest. The doubles team of Alyssa Powell and Allie De Marco won two matches on the day and the two also each won their only singles competition.
