Women's Tennis Claims Two Weekend Matches

The Ventura College women's tennis team prevailed in a pair of matches at the Ventura College Tennis Center this weekend.  On Friday, the Pirtes defeated Grossmont 5-2 before coming from behind against Saddleback on Saturday, 5-4. Luciana Muheison and Allie De Marco each posted two victories in singles play in the two matches for the Pirates (4-2, 1-2).

Ventura 5, Grossmont 2
on Friday, the Pirates  easily defeated the Griffins with two doubles matches still in play. Bailey Sindle won in No. 1 singles, 6-2, 6-1, and Lea Meschke claimed the No. 3 singles match 6-2, 6-3. The pair also teamed up to clinch the match in No. 1 doubles, 8-3. Muheison won a three-set thriller at the No. 5 singles slot, 2-6, 6-3, 10-4 and De marco claimed the No. 6 singles win, 6-3, 6-1.

Ventura 5, Saddleback 4
In an epic see saw affair the Pirates saved a match point at  No. 4 singles and came back to claim three consecutive singles matches and escaped with a 5-4 victory over Orange Empire power Saddleback College. VC led 2-1 after doubles play with wins posted by the duo of Megan Fleming and Alyssa Powell at No. 2, and by De Marco and Muheison at No. 3.  

The Gauchos came back strong with wins at Nos. 1, 2 and 3 singles before Muheison held off a match point to post a come-from-behind win at No. 4, 3-6, 6-1 (10-8). Theresa Doal won at No. 6, 6-1, 7-5, and De Marco claimed the match for VC with a win at No. 5, 3-6, 6-3 (10-6).
