Pirates Close North/South challenge with Split

The Ventura College women's tennis team closed out its North/South Challenge Saturday, splitting a pair of matches at the VC Tennis Center. The Pirates swept College of the Sequoias 5-0 in the first match and were on the receiving end of a 5-0 sweep against Fresno in a match that was closer than the final team score.

VC freshman Bailey Sindle won her No. 3 singles against Sequoias on Saturday, and teamed up with Yannick Garcia to win No. 1 doubles against the Giants.

The Ventura College women's tennis team closed out its North/South Challenge Saturday, splitting a pair of matches at the VC Tennis Center.  The Pirates swept College of the Sequoias 5-0 in the first match and were on the receiving end of a 5-0 sweep against Fresno in a match that was closer than the final team score.

The matches were played in playoff format with doubles contests taking place first.  

Against Sequoias, VC's doubles team of Yannick Garcia and Bailey Sindle won their No. 1 slot 8-0 while Jia Wiebe and Katy Scheck won in No. 2 doubles 8-1.  Candace Nito and Cristina Ortiz won in No. 3 doubles, 8-2.  Garcia (No. 1), Wiebe (No. 2) and Sindle (No. 3) clinched the match in singles play.

In the nightcap, both Garcia/Sindle and Wiebe.Scheck lost close decisions in doubles, 8-6.  Nito and Ortiz lost 8-5.  The Rams clinched the match in Nos. 2 and 6 singles.

The Prates brgin Western State Conference play on Tuesday Feb. 17 at home against Antelope Valley at 2:00 pm.
