Women's Soccer earns point in draw with Santa Barara
The Pirates' women's soccer team earned a point in the table Friday with a 1-1 draw with front-runner Santa Barbara at the VC Sportsplex. After giving up an early score, Ventura received an equalizer from Jennifer Ramirez in the 67th minute of play for the tie score. Viviana Marmolejo and Tanaya Moreno also had strong outings for VC (8-6-6, 5-2-4) heading into the final week of the regular season.

The Vaqueros struck very early, scoring a goal in the second minute of the game.
The Pirates got untracked midway through the first half, hitting a pair of shots that just missed the mark. SBCC came close to a second goal in the period, but hit the crossbar on a pair of attempts with the Pirates managing to clear the ball soon thereafter. Santa Barbara led 1-0 at intermission.
The Pirates began to gain control of the game in the second half with Ramirez collecting a ball in the middle of the field, dribbling by Vaquero defenders, and hitting a rocket from 30 yards out to being the score level in the 67th minute.
Both team battled for the final 20+ minutes with multiple fouls and emotions running high on both sides.
VC goalie Janessah Gonzalez and the Pirate defense were able to hold SBCC down the stretch for the 1-1 draw.
Ventura finished with six shots in the game, four on goal, while Santa Barbara had 12 shots total, six on target.
Ventura will host Oxnard on Tuesday Nov. 11 at 6:30 pm for sophomore night before closing the regular season at Canyons for a non-conference contest on Friday Nov. 14.
