2022 Ventura College Women's Soccer News
Ventura College student athletes excelled once again in the classroom in 2022-23, achieving an overall 3.29 grade point average in the fall and following that up with a 3.19 overall GPA in the spring semester. A total of 108 Pirates achieved a 3.5 GPA or higher, earning mention on the Dean's List in the fall 2022 term while taking in 12 or more units of study, with 53 student athletes recording a perfect 4.0 GPA. In spring 2023, 110 VC student athletes were named on the Dean's List with 45 posting perfect GPA's.
The Ventura College Athletic Department honored its outstanding scholar athletes for the 2022-23 year earlier this month at the annual VC Athletic Hall of Fame and Student Athlete Recognition Banquet. Gage Allen (baseball) received the Male Scholar Athlete Award while Lauren Albrent (Softball), Kylie Gallick (Basketball) and Maggie Mordecai (Soccer) were all named Female Schola Athletes for the year. All four achieved a perfect 4.0 grade point average for two years at Ventura College.
For the 22nd consecutive year, at least one Ventura College athletic team has been recognized for academic achievement by the California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA). The organization released its team and individual scholar awards for the 2021-22 earlier this month, and the Pirates' women's soccer team has been named a CCCAA State Scholar Team. This is the 41st VC team to receive the highest academic team award given annually in each CCCAA sport since the program's inception in 1997-98. This is the fourth award for women's soccer at VC, as the Pirates previously earned the award in 1997, 2002 and 2017.
For the second straight year, VC forward Alix Tirado has earned the Western State Confere3nce North Division Offensive Player of the Year Award as voted by the conference coaches last month. She is joined by Ashley Tiscareno and Alyssa Cornwell on the All-WSC first team for the 2022 season for the Pirates.
The VC women's soccer team had a great effort Saturday at No. 2-seeded Santiago Canyon, but came up short against the Hawks in the second round of the Southern California Regional Playoffs. Alix Tirado and Alexis Arrieta led the offensive attack for the No. 18-seeded Pirates (10-9-4), who dropped the 3-0 decision in the City of Orange.
The VC women's soccer team unleashed an offensive barrage on Wednesday evening, defeating Citrus 4-0 in the first found of the CCCAA Southern California Regional Playoffs in Claremont. Alexis Arrieta, Maggie Mordecai, Alix Tirado and Alyssa Cornwell all scored for No. 18-seeded VC (10-8-4) as they advanced to the second round of the playoffs on Saturday Nov. 19 at No. 2 Santiago Canyon College.
The Ventura College women's soccer team is in familiar territory. For the 25th time in 26 seasons, the Pirates have qualified for the CCCAA Southern California Regional Playoffs. VC (9-8-4) is seeded 18th in the draw and will travel to No. 15 Citrus (14-6-1) on Wednesday Nov. 16. Kickoff for the Pirates and Owls is set for 5:30 pm at Claremont High School.
The Pirate soccer team dropped a 2-1 decision to Allan Hancock College Friday evening at the Sportsplex. Alyssa Cornwell scored Ventura's lone goal in the regular season finale. Isa Garcia totaled six saves in goal for VC (9-8-4, 7-4-1).
The VC women's soccer team dominated play at Oxnard Friday afternoon, rolling to a 2-0 victory over the Condors. Alyssa Cornwell and Alexis Arrieta each scored in the victory in which Ventura (9-7-4, 7-3-1) outshot Oxnard 27-0 with 13 on target. Kambria Haughton earned the win in goal for the Pirates.
The VC women's soccer team battled Los Angeles Pierce College to a 1-1 draw Tuesday afternoon in Woodland Hills. Alix Tirado scored for the Pirates (8-7-4) and Isa Garcia recorded six saves in goal to keep Ventura level with the Brahmas in third place in the Western State Conference North Division table heading into the final 10 days of the regular season.
The VC women's soccer team used a late goal by Elisa Merlos to roll past visiting Moorpark 2-1 Friday night. Alix Tirado assisted the game-winner in the 85th minute along with an Alyssa Gonzalez score in the 44th minute to help lead the way for VC (8-7-3, 6-3). Kambria Haughton played a scoreless first half in goal while Isa Garcia had three saves in the second 45 minutes of play as goalie.
Despite an outstanding team effort, the VC women's soccer team fell to visiting Santa Barbara 3-1 Wednesday evening at the VC Sportsplex. Alix Tirado scored for the Pirates in the 10th minute, and VC maintained a level score for over 40 minutes of game time despite being down a player before the Vaqueros pulled away in the end. Pirate goal keeper Kambria Haughton had six saves on the night.
The Pirates' women's soccer team traveled to Santa Maria on Tuesday, coming home after a 2-1 setback at the hands of the Bulldogs. Alix Tirado scored in the first half before the Bulldogs found the inside of the goal twice in the final 45 minutes of play. Tirado recorded five shots on goal for Ventura while Maggie Mordecai and Ashley Tiscareno each had two shots on target.
The VC soccer team put forth a dominant effort Tuesday, defeating Oxnard 5-0 at the Sportsplex. The Pirates had 26 shots, 12 on goal, while the Condors did not record a single shot in the shutout. Alix Tirado scored once and had three assists while Ashley Tiscareno, Alexis Arrieta, Alyssa Cornwell and Jaemi Toledo all found the back of the net for Ventura (6-5-3, 4-1).
Alix Tirado scored a hat-trick, plus one on Friday in Ventura's 4-1 round-up of the LA Pirece College Brahmas at the Sportsplex. The sophomore scored her first goal two minutes into the game and the final one with 13 minutes remaining as VC earned its third Western State Conference win in four outings. Isa Garcia had five saves in goal to earn the win defending the net.
After a scoreless first half, Ventura College forward Alix Tirado found the net twice in the second to lead the Pirates' women's soccer team to a 2-1 victory at Moorpark Tuesday afternoon. VC goal keeper Isa Garcia totaled four saves to help preserve the narrow win over the Raiders.
