Pirate Athletics Lists 83 4-Year Transfers for 2019-20

The Ventura College Athletic Department is pleased to report that they list 83 student athletes from 2019-20 who are slated to transfer to four-year institutions in the fall, as of August 31. Of those transfers, 60 plan on continuing their athletic careers at their new school, most of them with an athletic scholarship. The transferring student athletes will attend 58 different schools in 26 states around the country.

Defense was the name of the game for the 2019 Ventura College women's soccer team as the Pirates had their best season guarding the goal since 2008. VC allowed just 17 goals on the season, a 12-year low, and posted 10 shutouts en route to their 23rd playoff appearance in the program's 24-year history.

The Ventura College women's soccer team received four first team All-Western State Conference nods as voted on by conference coaches last month. Leading the awards was Aracely Castro who was named the WSC Goalkeeper of the Year. She was joined on the first team all-conference list by Yadi Raigoza, Sammy Zanini and Jacky Espinosa. Additionally, VC had a pair of second-team All-WSC nods and two Honorable Mention all-conference awards.

The Pirates' women's soccer team had an outstanding effort Saturday night, playing Santa Barbara even for 120 minutes before falling 4-3 in penalty kicks in the first round of the SoCal Regional Playoffs. Anna Escobar scored the lone goal for the Pirates (12-6-4) in the 65th minute of play, leveling the score at 1-1, setting up the extra time. VC goalie Aracely Castro had eight saves in the game.

Women's Soccer Back in Playoffs, Travels to SBCC

The Ventura College women's soccer team has qualified for the post season for the 23rd time n its 24-year existence. The Pirates (12-6-3) have been seeded No. 10 in the Southern California Regionals and will head to No. 7 Santa Barbara (12-6-3) to begin post-season play on Saturday Nov. 23. The Pirates and Vaqueros have already tangled twice this season with SBCC prevailing 2-1 both on Oct. 1 and Nov. 10.

Pirates Smash Pierce to Close Regular Season

The VC women's soccer team took out a week's worth of frustration on visiting Los Angeles Pierce Friday, placing a 5-0 smashing on the Brahmas in the regular season finale at the VC Sportsplex. Ventura, who had suffered consecutive losses to slide from first to third in the Western State Conference North Divsiion, received two goals and an assist by Jacqueline Rivera and Sammy Zanaini while Jasmine Ambriz also found the back of the net. Goalie Aracely Castro posted her ninth shutout of the season.

On their longest road trip of the season on the heels of dropping a heartbreaking game on Sunday, the Pirates' women's soccer team could not get the offense moving Tuesday afternoon in San Luis Obispo, falling to Cuesta College 2-0. The Pirates had 14 shots in the game with six on goal and Aracely Castro had four saves in the game for VC (11-6-3, 6-4-1). The Cougars scored goals in the 44th and 63rd minutes for the final margin.

In a game that most likely decided the Western State Conference North Division title, the Pirates' soccer team could not overcome a two-goal deficit in their 2-1 setback against Santa Barbara at the Sportsplex on Sunday night. Jacky Espinosa netted the Pirates lone goal in a comeback bid that fell just short. Aracely Castro had four saves in goal.

Pirate Soccer Wins With Best Offensive Night of the Season

The VC women's soccer team racked up its best offensive night of the season with a 5-1 victory over visiting Oxnard at the VC Sportsplex on Tuesday night. Jacky Espinosa continued her hot streak with two goals and two assists while Sammy Zanini also notched a pair of scores on the night. Karen Martinez also had a goal as the Pirates (11-4-3, 6-2-1) pulled into a first place tie with Cuesta, two points ahead of Santa Barbara in the Western State Conference North Division race.

The Ventura College women's soccer team kept pace in the Western State Conference North Division race with a 2-0 victory at Allan Hancock College in Santa Maria Friday afternoon. Jacky Espinosa scored both goals for the Pirates (10-4-3, 5-2-1), who recorded their ninth shutout of the season.

Ventura College sophomore Anna Escobar scored on a penalty kick in the 76th minute to level the score at 1-1, preserving a draw for the Pirates' women's soccer team at Moorpark Tuesday afternoon. VC (9-4-3, 4-2-1) trailed Moorpark following the Raiders' 46th minute goal after a scoreless first half at Raider Pitch.

Late Goals Lift Pirates at LA Pierce

After holding a slim 1-0 lead for most of the game, the Pirates' women's soccer team saw victory slip away in the 81st minute when host Los Angeles Pierce netted a goal to level the score. VC freshman Jacky Espinosa was not going to let the win get away, however, as she scored a goal, and assisted another in the final minutes of play to lead the Pirates to a 3-1 triumph over the Brahmas Yareli Vasquez and Jacqueline Rivera also scored for VC (9-4-2, 4-2), who ends the first round of Western State Conference play just a point out of first place.

Soccer Tightens WSC Race With Win Over Cuesta

The VC women's soccer team tightened the Western State Conference race Friday night with a 2-1 victory over first place Cuesta at the VC Sportsplex. Natalie Lansberg and Sammy Zanini each scored goals for Ventura (8-4-2, 3-2) as they gave the Cougars their first conference loss. With one game remaining in the first round of WSC play, Cuesta, Santa Barbara and VC remain within four points of each other in the conference standings.

The Ventura College soccer team leveled its Western State Conference record with a 3-0 shutout victory at Oxnard College Wednesday afternoon. Sammy Zanini scored a pair of goals and Aracely Castro posted her seventh shutout of the season in goal for the Pirates (7-4-2, 2-2). VC had 20 shots on the day with 11 on goal compared to two for the Condors.

Pirate sophomore Anna Escobar added an insurance goal in the 74th minute to set Ventura's final 2-0 margin over visiting Allan Hancock College on Tuesday at the Sportsplex.
Women's Soccer Shuts Out Hancock

The VC women's soccer team posted its seventh shutout of the season Tuesday night with a 2-0 victory over Allan Hancock College at the VC Sportsplex. Yareli Vasquez and Anna Escobar netted goals in the victory while Aracely Castro anchored the defense in goal. The Pirates (6-4-2, 1-2) produced 19 shots offensively with nine on frame.

Pirates Can't Find Goal in Setback

The Pirates' soccer team played well enough to win on Friday night. They had 24 shots against visiting Moorpark at the Sportsplex, keeping up the pressure with 11 on goal. Unfortunately, only one found the back of the net in Ventura's 2-1 loss to the Raiders, who had just two shots in the entire game. Jasmin Ambriz scored the Pirates' lone goal in the third minute of the game, assisted by Jackie Rivera. Moorpark netted scores in the fifth and 58th minutes of the contest.
