The Ventura College women's soccer team is proud to announce that 11 sophomores from its 2016 Western State Conference championship team are matriculating to four-year universities this fall, with five planning on taking the pitch for their new schools in 2017. “Our goal is to help student athletes move on to four year colleges," said head coach Steve Hoffman. "I feel that our staff and Ventura College professors achieved this goal with our 2016 class we should be proud of the 11 graduating sophomores."

Three standouts from the 2016 Western State Conference champion Ventura College soccer team were named All-Americans by the National Soccer Coaches of America, and were honored at its national convention earlier this month in Los Angeles. Sophomores Janelle Garcia, Jennifer Orozco and Melissa Cardenas were all named second-team All-American by the NSCAA, and also received first team All-West Region accolades.

VC soccer forward janelle Garcia and head coach Steve Hoffman led the list of Pirates honored in All-Western State Conference voting by conference coaches last month. Janelle, who led the circuit with 18 goals in 10 conference games and 30 scores overall, was named the WSC North Division Most Valuable Player while Hoffman was named Coach of the Year for the seventh time for leading VC back to the top of the standings for the 16th time in 21 years.

Pirate Soccer Ends Season With Difficult Home Playoff Loss

Unfortunately, as the saying goes, it is difficult to beat a good team three times, and such was the case Tuesday as the No. 14-seeded Santa Barbara City came into the Sportsplex and came away with a 3-1 decision over the No. 6-seeded Ventura College women's soccer team in the CCCAA SoCal regional Semifinals. The Pirates (16-6-1) had defeated the Vaqueros twice during the regular season en route to the program's 16th Western State Conference title, but SBCC rode the momentum of an early goal Tuesday to the playoff win over VC.

VC Soccer Advances With 3-1 Playoff Victory

The VC women's soccer team earned the No. 6 seed in the Southern California Regional Playoffs with aggressive offense. Saturday night in their opening post season game they continued that trend with a solid 3-1 victory over visiting Los Angeles Pierce. Josselyn Pereda, Melissa Cardenas and Janelle Garcia all scored goals as the Pirates (16-5-1) claimed their first playoff win since 2012.

Pirates Return to SoCal Regional Playoffs

After a one year hiatus, the Pirates' women's soccer team is returning to the Southern California Regional Playoffs. Ventura (15-5-1) received the No. 6-seed in the draw released Tuesday and will host No. 11 Los Angeles Pierce (13-3-3) on Saturday Nov. 19 at the VC Sportsplex. Admission, set by the CCCAA, is $8 for adults and $5 for seniors and students. Gates will open at 6:00 pm for the 7;00 pm kickoff.

Melissa Cardenas scored from 30 yards out in the 88th minute of play as Ventura defeated Oxnard 3-1 Friday.  The win, coupled with a Moorpark loss, gives the Pirates a share of the WSC championship.
Pirate Soccer Defeats Oxnard, Claims 16th WSC Championship

The elusive 16th conference title that seemed so distant Tuesday became a reality Friday for the Pirates' women's soccer team. Janelle Garcia, Rae Richie and Melissa Cardenas all scored goals as VC (15-5-1, 8-1-1) defeated Oxnard at the VC Sportsplex in the regular season finale Friday. About an hour later, Santa Barbara defeated Moorpark 2-1 giving the Pirates and Raiders each a share of the Western State Conference North Division crown. The title is the first for VC since 2012 and the 16th overall for the program since 1996.

Ventrua Can't Keep Up Pace at Moorpark

An early Moorpark goal put Ventura on the offensive, on the Pirates were unable to crack the Raiders' defense, falling to a 2-0 defeat Tuesday afternoon in a battle of the top two teams in the Western State Conference. VC outshot the Raiders 20-8, but Moorpark was able to push two goals through for the win.

Pirates Pick Up Big Road Victory at Santa Barbara, Set Up WSC Showdown

In a crucial road test, the VC women's soccer team raced out to a 3-0 advantage in the first 43 minutes of the contest at Santa Barbara and made it hold up for the 3-2 result Friday night at La Playa Stadium. Janelle Garcia had two goals and Melissa Cardenas netted the third as the Pirates (14-4-1, 7-0-1) set up a game for all the WWestern State Conference North Division marbles at Moorpark on Tuesday.

The Pirates' women's soccer team is up to its old (hat) tricks again. Janelle Garcia netted her third hat trick of the season, and added an extra goal to boot, and Jennifer Orozco had a hat trick of three scores in leading Ventura (14-4-1, 6-0-1) to a 9-1 runaway victory at Allan Hancock College Tuesday in Santa Maria.

For the third time this season, VC sophomore Jennifer Orozco netted a hat trick as the Pirate soccer team defeated Los Angeles Valley Coillege 7-1 Monday in Van Nuys. Orozco scored three goals and Janelle Garcia had two scores with two assists as Ventura (12-4-1, 5-0-1) extended its unbeaten streak to nine matches in the non-conference contest.

It did not take long for the Pirate soccer team to score Friday night at the Sportsplex, as they took an early lead in the fourth minute and never looked back in their 6-0 shutout of visiting Cuesta. Five different players scored goals as Ventura (11-4-1, 5-0-1) remained in a first place tie in the Western State Conference race while stretching their unbeaten streak to eight matches.

Soccer Runs Away From Oxnard

Jennifer Orozco had her second hat trick of the season and Janelle Garcia had two goals with three assists as the Pirate soccer team ran away from host Oxnard College 7-1 Tuesday afternoon. Fresh off a big week in which the Pirates stayed atop the Western State Conference North Division standings, they turned a 1-1 tie midway through the first half into a runaway win over the Condors to finish the first round of conference play unbeaten.

Pirates, Raiders Fit to Be Tied

In a scoreless draw that had no shortage of exciting moments, the Ventura College women's soccer team tied visiting Moorpark Friday evening at the VC Sportsplex. The teams who entered the contest tied atop the standings in the Western State Conference North Division, combined for 31 shots, 16 of which were on goal. Pirate goal keeper Evanessa Vasquez had eight saves in keeping the Raiders scoreless in the match.

Showing their best effort of the season, the Ventura College women's soccer team defeated visiting Santa Barbara 2-0 Tuesday evening at the VC Sportsplex. Janelle Garcia and Sarah Garcia scored second half goals to give the Pirates (9-4, 3-0) the edge in the match up of two of the conference's three remaining undefeated teams. Evanessa Vasquez had six saves in goal for the shutout.

Garcia's Hat Trick Leads VC Past Bulldogs

Janelle Garcia has been on a tear as of late. She continued that on Friday, netting her second straight hat trick leading the Pirates past visiting Allan Hancock College 4-1 Friday at the Sportsplex. Garcia, who has scored 13 golas in the past seven matches, netted all three goals in the first half hour of play, pushing Ventura (8-4, 2-0) to their fourth consecutive victory and sixth win in the past seven outings.
