Soccer Claims Victory at Nike
With another solid performance, the No. 16-ranked Pirate soccer team claimed a 3-1 win over preseason No. 4 and 2012 state finalist Sierra College Saturday afternoon in the finale of the Nike Soccer Community College Classic at the VC Sportsplex. Macey Herrera scored a pair of second half goals and Taylor C'debaca netted a score in the first half as VC moves to 2-0-0 on the young season.

WOMEN'S SOCCER: With another solid performance, the No. 16-ranked Pirate soccer team claimed a 3-1 win over preseason No. 4 and 2012 state finalist Sierra College Saturday afternoon in the finale of the Nike Soccer Community College Classic at the VC Sportsplex. Macey Herrera scored a pair of second half goals and Taylor C'debaca netted a score in the first half as VC moves to 2-0-0 on the young season.
C'debaca put the Pirates ahead in the 25th minute when she put a low shot into the back of the net on a partial breakaway. The Wolverines equalized the match nine minutes later on a 25-yard shot into the top corner of the goal.
Midway through the second half Herrera, a sophomore transfer fro Cal State Northridge, took over the match. She slotted a penalty kick low and left to put Ventura ahead in the 72nd minute and provided some insurance, capitalizing on a defensive mistake and netting the final goal three minutes later.
VC will make its first road trip of the season on Friday Sept. 6 as the Pirates will travel to Bakersfield for a 4:00 pm match.
