Pirates Track & Field Begins 2026 Season
The VC men's and women's track and field teams opened their seasons Saturday at the Moorpark Season Opener. Luke Carnaghe highlighted the Pirate men with a gold and a silver. Honest Watson, Avery Wells and Ariel Montejano each placed in three events to lead the Ventura women in the meet that featured eight community college teams, NCAA Division III Cal Lutheran and other unattached athletes.

Honest Watson, Avery Wells and Ariel Montejano each placed in three events to lead the Ventura women in the meet that featured eight community college teams, NCAA Division III Cal Lutheran and other unattached athletes.
Carnaghe broke the tape in the 300m hurdles in 38.40 to claim the gold medal and he also finished second in the 60m hurdles. Ty Brown placed fourth in both the hurdles events.
Makaio Thompson ran fifth in the 60m and 15th in the 150m for the Pirates and Max Daniel was fifth in the 150m and eight in the 60m. Jeremiah Penny crossed the finish line in ninth place in the 150m and was 10th in the 60m while Alejandro Gomez finished 22nd in the 300m.
In the field events, Mateo Chavez finished 11th in the javelin and 15th in the shot put. Meanwhile Abraham Salinas and Jason Vasquez placed 24th and 26th, respectively, in the shot.
Watson led the Pirate women placing in three events. SHe claimed bronze in the long jump, finishd fourth in the 150m and placed fifth in the 60m. Meanwhile, Wells was ninth in the long jump, 11th in the 150m and 14th in the 60m. Dulce Quezada came in 10th in the 60m and 13th in the 150m.
Montejano led the effort in the field events placing sixth in the javelin, 14th in the discus and 15th in the shot put. Alyna Renteria was seventh in the javelin and 16th in the shot.
Ventura will next host the Pirate Invitational on Friday Feb. 20.
