Adan Cruz and Kimora Pooler punched their tickets to the state championships with top 3 finishes at the Southern California Regionals hosted by Riverside City College Saturday. Pooler claimed second place in the shot put finals to earn her way to state while Cruz claimed the bronze in the 10,000m run. Brieanna Tafoya moved past her preliminary round in the 800 meters on Saturday, as well,and ahost of other Pirates are scheduled to compete in Regioinal Championships on Saturday May 11 back in Riverside.
The VC men's and women's track and field teams began and ended the Western State Conference preliminaries with individual conference titles. Kimora Pooler, Cynthia Tuzak and Adan Cruz all claimed individual golds in limited event finals Friday in Santa Barbara while sever other Pirates qualifid for the WSC finals to be held Friday April 26 at Moorpark. With limited scoring opportunities, the Pirate women were in second place with 26 points while the VC men were in seventh with 19 points, just six points from second place.
In their final tune-up before the Western State Conference Championships, the Pirates' men's and women's track and field teams traveled to the Santa Barbara City College Easter Open on Friday with six athletes turning in gold medal performances. The meet provided the team with one last opportunity to sharpen up before the five-week march to the state championships, and Adan Cruz, Isaiah Batis and Jake Turville looked to be in top form for the Pirate men while Brieanna Tafoya, Cynthia Tuzak and Olivia Burton struck gold for the VC women.
Despite windy conditions, several Pirate track and field athletes achieved Southern California and CCCAA State qualifying standards at the Antelope Valley College Spring Invitational Friday in Lancaster. David Lopez, Kimora Pooler and Cece Tuzak all meet state automatic performance standards in the 100 meters, shot put, and discus, respectively. Jaedon Rogers, Brieanna Tafoya and Olivia Burton also captured individual golds for VC.
The Ventura College men's and women's track and field teams participated in the annual Occidental College Distance Carnival and Spring Break Competition Saturday in Eagle Rock, producing changes in the state rankings and on VC's all-time track lists. One thrower and three distance runners made statewide impacts highlighted by Brieanna Tayfoya's 800-meter run. Olivia Burton and Adan Cruz had strong runs in the women's and men's 500 meters, respectively, and Cynthia Tuzak had a strong performance in the discus.
The Ventura College women's track and field team took first of six teams and the men were third at the Western State Conference North meet hosted at the VC Sportsplex Friday. Pirate winners for the day were highlighted by the triple gold turned in by David Lopez who pulled off the 100 and 200 meter double, and he stormed from behind to victory on the anchor leg the 4x100 meter relay. Other winners included Kimora Pooler in the shot put, CeCe Tuzak in the discus, and Olivia Burton in the 3000 meters.
