Pirates Women's Track Places 12th at State

The Ventura College men and women's track & Field programs capped of their 2016 seasons at the California Community College Championships held at San Diego Mesa College. The women's team represented by four women placed 12th overall among the 41 teams that scored. The 12th place finish and point total was the highest a Pirate women's team has achieved since 1997.

Danielle Colvin finished her career placing seventh in both the long and triple jumps with marks of 17'4" and 36'0" respectively.

Three Lady Pirates were awarded All-American recognition for placing in the top four in their events. Tiara Litonjua finished fourth in the 400 hurdles in 65.42 for her third fastest race of 2016. The other two All-Americans not only placed, but set school records along the way. Pirate season MVP, Alisha Greenlaw improved on her eighth place finish a year ago moving up to fourth place. Her time of 14.38 smashed her 14.66 record set earlier this year at the Santa Barbara Relays. Marissa Tobin also broke her own school record of 10'8" in the pole vault with a third place effort of 10'10.75".

Greenlaw, Colvin, Litonjua, and Tobin teamed up to place sixth in the 4x400 meter relay running 3.59.48 for the fourth fastest in school history.

Tristan Griffith took 5th in the men's 400 meters in 47.83, missing his lifetime best by a mere one hundredth of a second.

"The young athletes really stepped up after a long grueling season," commented head coach Tony Veney. "To place 12th overall with four young women is a testament to their hard work and dedication to the sport. It was gratifying to see each young woman scoring in their individual events as well as on the relay." With Litonjua and Griffith both returning next year to give the men's and women's teams a solid foundation to build upon.
