Pirates Mine Gold at the Easter Relays.
Ventura College track and field took it's shortest road trip of the year traveling to Santa Barbara College for the annual Easter Relays. The Pirates garnered nine medals with four of those coming as gold medals. Alyssa Carrillo got the day off to a winning start by taking first place in the women's hammer throw competition with a 123 foot performance. Alisha Greenlaw would produce the next winning effort as her time of 14.66 in the 100 meter hurdles not only broke the Easter Relays meet record, but broke her own school record of 14.67 set at the 2015 California State Meet.
Sam Boyle collected the final gold medal of the day taking the lead after 3 laps and never looked back producing a huge best of 15:27.60 in the 5000 meters.
Silver medals were also won by Danielle Colvin in the Long Jump and Marissa Tobin in the Pole Vault (missing her school record by just an inch). Tristan Griffith (100 meters). Greenlaw (Triple Jump), and Vincent Concepcion were bronze medal winners to cap off the Pirate award winners.
"We did not load up the team for this meet because we have our second WSC scoring meet in a week, and I wanted the team to compete but without a ton of stress," commented head coach Tony Veney.
The Pirates next travel to Cuesta in San Luis Obispo Friday Apr. 1 for a conference showdown with host Cuesta and West Los Angeles, Moorpark, Allan Hancock, and Santa Barbara.
