Two Pirates Earn All-American Honors at State Track

Dylan Roberts and Alisha Greenlaw each earned All-American Honors at the CCCAA State Track and Field Championships in San Mateo.  Roberts came in eighth in the triple jump while Greenlaw bested her own school record with an eighth place finish in the 100m hurdles.

Roberts, a sophomore from Buena High School, finished 11th in the long jump in Friday's competition with a leap of 21 feet, 2 3/4 inches.  Saturday he wrapped up his VC career with his second appearance in the state triple jump competition.  Things didn't start off well for Roberts as his first jump left him out of the top top qualifiers for the finals. But just as he has done all year, he responded in the final round to finish eighth with a mark of 46 feet, 3 inches, earning All-American honors.

Greenlaw, a freshman from Rio Mesa High School, improved on her own school record set earlier this season.  She ran a 14.67 in the finals of the 100m hurdles to finish eighth, also good for All-American accolades.  Her previous best and previous school record time was 14.81 set on March 20 at the Athelope Valley Invitational in Lancaster.

 "Both young people gave a great account of themselves," commented head coach Tony Veney. "When you lace up against the best the state has to offer and can claim being one of the top 8, that's quite the accomplishment."
