Greenlaw Headlines Track Performances With New School Record
The Ventura Track and field team hit the road March 20th with throwers competing in the Santa Barbara Easter Relays while the bulk of the team traveled to Lancaster for the Antelope Valley Invitational. Freshman Alisha Greenlaw highlighted the day with a record-breaking performance in the 100 meter hurdles, breaking a 34-year old school record in the process.
The Ventura track and field team hit the road March 20th with throwers competing in the Santa Barbara Easter Relays while the bulk of the team traveled to Lancaster for the Antelope Valley Invitational. Freshman Alisha Greenlaw highlighted the day with a record-breaking performance in the 100 meter hurdles, breaking a 34-year old school record in the process.
Greenlaw had another fine afternoon, placing third in both the 100 and 200 meters sprint races. Her day was topped off, however, by her first place finish in the 100 meter hurdles in a time of 14.81. That mark ranks her No. 3 in the state, No. 1 in Southern California and in the Western State Conference, breaking Tawny Singleton's time of 14.84 set in 1981.
On the men's side, the 4x100 meter relay team of Montre Lee, Ronald Washington, Leo Ramirez, and Dante Dorris started off the day with a third place finish. Lee returned to capture second in the 100 meters, losing the gold medal by .07 seconds, and comfortably took the win in the 200 meter sprint. Dylan Roberts duplicated his double win at the Bakersfield Invitational tying his seasonal best in the triple jump and bouncing to a new lifetime best in the long jump, only two inches from the top-10 all-time at VC. O'Cean Brown capped off the day for the men placing third in the 400 hurdles.
"Alisha Dylan, and Montre continue to lead the team and hope to make their mark when the season winds down in May," said head coach Tony Veney.
Brittany McWaid was the only Pirate thrower to crack the top-3, and she made the best of her chances taking third in the shot put, and snagging silver medals in the hammer and discus throw events.
"Brittany did a fine job Friday," commented coach Veney. "She had been down for a month with a quad injury and she has come back at just the right time."
The Pirates head up the 101-freeway on Friday March 27, facing Cuesta, Moorpark, Santa Barbara and Allan Hancock in the WSC Coastal Meet in San Luis Obispo. Field events start at 11:00am with the first running event going off at 1:00 pm.
