Dixon Places Third in Shot Put

Pirate sophomore Brooke Dixon earned All-American status Saturday, placing third in the shot put at the CCCAA State Championships at Mt. San Antonio College. Dixon, who was also a member of VC's state champion women's basketball team, threw 39' 4" on her second attempt to claim the bronze at the final event of the year. Dixon claimed fifth place in the same event last season. Meanwhile, Dylan Roberts had a strong showing as well in the triple jump, posting a mark of 44' 11" to finish 11th in the state competition.

VC freshman Dylan Roberts jumped a lifetime-best 46'6" in the triple jump at the SoCal Regional Final Saturday to qualify for the State Championships next week.  He will be joined at Mt. SAC by sophomore Brooke Dixon, who is making her second appearance in the shot put at the state finals.
Roberts, Dixon Headed to State

Dylan Roberts and Brooke Dixon are headed to the CCCAA State Track & Field Championships. The two qualified for the state finals in the triple jump and shot put, respectively, at the SoCal regional finals held Friday and Saturday in Riverside. Roberts, a freshman, jumped a lifetime-best 46'6" to place fifth overall while Dixon, a sophomore, earned her second trip to the championships with a throw of 40'10" to claim third.

Sophomore Brittnee Jones qualified for the SoCal finals in three events, and was one of five Pirates to advance to the regional final next weekend in Riverside.
Pirates Advance to SoCal Final

Five members of the Pirate track and field teams advanced to the SoCal Finals in preliminary competition Friday and Saturday at Riverside City College. Things got started Friday when Brooke Dixon (3rd) and Brittnee Jones (10th) qualified for next week's shot put final (the top-12 field event competitors advance). Jones returned on Saturday and qualified second in the hammer throw (No. 6 all-time at VC) and ninth in the discus, while Dixon placed ninth in the hammer. Danielle Colvin placed sixth overall in the long jump, while Sabrina Sewell placed a qualifying 10th in the 3000 meter steeple chase making her second consecutive steeple final. The lone male Pirate to move on did so in fine fashion as Dylan Roberts place 12th in the long jump as eighth in the triple jump.

Sabrina Sewell had a double-silver performance in the 3000m steeplechase and in the 400m hurdles as the VC women placed fifth at the WSC Championships Friday at Antelope Valley.
VC Track Solid at WSC Finals

The VC men's and women's track and field teams headed to the High Desert Friday to compete in the Western State Conference Championships hosted by Antelope Valley College. The Pirate women finished a solid fifth of the 11 teams competing while the men were ninth of 10 teams. Brooke Dixon claimed the only gold for Ventura with a strong throw in the hammer. She also placed in the shot put and had finished sixth in the discus a week earlier at the prelims. For the men, Montre Lee was third in the 100 meters and Dylan Roberts was third in the long jump for VC's best finishes.

Pirates Qualify at WSC Prelims

The Ventura College track and field teams participated in the Western State Conference Preliminaries Friday at College of the Canyons with spots to the WSC Championships and the Southern California Regionals on the line. On the men's side, Jake Herbold (400 hurdles), Ed Herrera (PR in the 1500m), Ruben Juanillo (1500m) and Montre Lee (double qualifier in the 100 & 200m) highlighted the day. The women scored a little better as Danielle Colvin (400m), Bailey Crowley (800m) and Sabrina Sewell (1500m) advance to next weeks finals. Additionally, by virtue of the their Top-6 finishes in the field event finals, four punched their tickets to the SoCal Prelims. Colvin (long jump), and Andisha Steward, Brittnee Jones, and Brooke Dixon (discus) all qualified for the regional preliminaries.

Track & Field at Mt. SAC Relays

A skeleton crew traveled to Mt San Antonio College Saturday for the annual Mt. SAC Relays, casing some of the top track and field talent in the state. Seven Pirates competed with three women performing at a high level. Danielle Colvin was fourth in the long jump while Sabrina Sewell placed fifth in the 300m steeplechase. Meanwhile Brittnee Jones got the day off to a strong start with a 10th place finish in the hammer throw.

Steven Lang won the hammer throw at the WSC-Coastal Meet Friday.  The VC women won the meet while the men finished third.
Wms Track Wins WSC Coastal

On the strength of four individual first place finishes, the Ventura College women's track and field team finished first in the Western State Conference Coastal Meet Friday at Cuesta College. Sabrina Sewell (400m hurdles), Brooke Dixon (shot put), Brittnee Jones (hammer throw) and Andisha Steward (discus) all won events to help propel the Pirates to victory. Meanwhile the VC men finished a strong third place, just seven points out of first place among the five teams competing. Dylan Roberts (triple jump), Steven Lang (hammer throw) and the 4x400 m relay team all brought home golds.

Pirates Medal at Easter Relays

The Ventura College track and field programs competed in the Santa Barbara Easter Relays on Friday March 21 and walked away with an impressive medal harvest. The gold medal haul included Brooke Dixon in the shot put, only days after winning a state basketball title, Sabrina Sewell in the 400 hurdles and an impressive double gold performances by Dylan Roberts in long jump and triple jump and Brittnee Jones in the hammer and discus throw (giving her three medals on the day).

The Ventura College men's and women's distance runners took center stage Friday as they competed in the Occidental College Distance Carnival. The annual event, highlights distance from 800 meters to 10k, featuring elite all the way down to novice running sections. The highlight of the evening came in the women's 3000 meter steeplechase as school record holder Sabrina Sewell shaved 17 seconds from her old record and ranks her No. 5 in Southern California and No. 7 in the state.

In windy conditions with a cold rain, the Pirates' men's and women's track and field teams traveled to the Western State Conference North meet at Bakersfield College Friday, with the Pirate women placing third and the men placing fourth of the six teams participating. The throwing of Brittnee Jones and Andisha Steward accounted for 48 of the women's 112 points (Canyons and Bakersfield scored 134 and 123 points, respectively) while Keenan Davis, Dylan Roberts, and Steven Lang led the men in the field events.

The Ventura College Pirate track and field teams participated in their one home contest when they hosted the Western State Conference Relays Friday at the Sportsplex. The meet provided an opportunity for all ten conference programs to involve the greatest majority of their team members through the relay schedule in the non-scoring meet. The VC women had a solid day as seven Pirates improved their seasonal bests on the track and in the field. Sabrina Sewell took first place honors in the 400 hurdles and ranks in the WSC top-5 so far this season. Meanwhile, the Ventura men were lead by Dylan Roberts with his 1st place finish in the triple jump.

Sophomore Brittnee Jones placed in four events at the Battle of the Regions at Bakersfield College as VC opened its 2014 Track and Field schedule.  The Pirate men placed 5th of 9 while the women were 7th of 10 at the meet.
VC Opens Track Season at BC

The 2014 Ventura College Pirates men's & women's track and field teams traveled to Bakersfield for the annual "Battle of the Regions" Friday, featuring teams from the Northern and Southern California community college sections. The men's team place fifth and had some encouraging performances with Connor Nearly led the way placing in four events. Meanwhile, the women's team placed seventh as dual sport athlete Brittnee Jones led the effort, also placing in four events.
