2020 Men's and Women's Swimming & Diving Review

The season had barely began, and then it was over. In a sport where progression of training builds to a pair of three-day meets at the end of the season, the Ventura College men's and women's swimming and diving teams had barely gotten in the pool before the coronavirus ended the year. Despite the short campaign, the Pirates still managed to make their mark.

VC sophomore Marcel Hurtubise earned points in the 200-yard freestyle and the 200-yard butterfly in addition to swimming on the 400-yard medley relay team for the Pirates Saturday at the WSC No. 2 Invite at Cuesta College.
Swimming & Diving Competes at WSC #2 at Cuesta

The Pirates men's and women's swimming and diving teams competed at the Western State Conference Invite No. 2 hosted by Cuesta Saturday in San Luis Obispo. The VC men placed second of nine teams while the women finished eight of the 10 competing teams. Lauren Hooyer won the 50-yard freestyle for the women's best finish while Lester Wright and Atruro Medina brought home gold for the Pirate men.

VC sophomore Caitlin Burditt had a runner-up finish in the 200-yard freestyle and was part of the first-place 200-yard freestyle relay for the Pirate women at the WSC #1 meet at Citrus College Friday.
Men's Swimming & Diving Takes WSC #1 at Citrus

The Pirates' men's swimming and diving team took first place at the Western State Conference No. 1 meet at Citrus College in Glendora on Friday. Lester Wright continued his prowess in the 1m and 3m diving competitions while Marcel Hurtibise, Johnny Van Mannaks. Collin Spargur and Arturo Medina all turned in individual gold medal performances. The Pirate women came in fourth place overall led by the first place finish in the 200-yard freestyle relay.

VC freshman Arturo Medina won the 100-yard breast stroke, 1.5 seconds ahead of second place, and claimed a silver and bronze finish individually in the 2020 season-opening Larry Baratte Invitational at the VC Aquatic Center Friday.
VC Swimming & Diving Teams Open Season Strong

The Pirates' men's and women's swimming and diving teams opened their 2020 campaign on Friday hosting the Larry Baratte Invitational. The VC men were second and the women were fourth in the Western State Conference preview event named for Ventura's Hall of Fame coach who retired in 2016. Lester Wright had a record-setting day in the 1m and 3m diving competitions while Arturo Medina and Marcel Hurtubise also won events. Masiel Martinez and Raylynn Lipsky earned the highest finished for the VC women.
