The No. 18 Pirates dropped the best-of-three series to the No. 1-seeded Comets in two games. Aubrey Aguirre hit a home run in the bottom of the second inning for Ventura's lone run of the game.
The Pirates were the home team in Saturday's Game 2 tilt after falling 6-2 in Game 1 on Friday.
The Comets struck first with a five-run frame in the top of the second. VC came back with Aguirre's homer, but that would be all the offense the Pirates would be able to muster.
Palomar then scored two runs in the third and four runs in the fifth to finish the 5-inning game.
Baylany Magana was the only other Pirate to record a hit in the game as Comet pitching completely stifled the Ventura offense.
Emma Estrella took to the circle to start the game, yielding five runs, four earned. Magana took over in the second inning and finished the game for VC.
The Pirates finish the season with an overall record of 22-20-1, including the first undefeated Western State Conference season for the program since 1981. It was a tale of two seasons for Ventura as they dropped 13 of the first 17 games before winning 18 of their final 25 contests. The Pirates also won back-to-back WSC crowns for the first time since 2004 and 2005.
