Under first-year head coach Travis Allain, the Pirates' men's water polo team had a resurgence or sorts, improving nine wins from their 2018 campaign. VC equalled their win total from 2018 on the opening weekend of the year, posting their highest point total in a decade with a 25-7 victory over Las Positas. Things got better from that point as Ventura produced 11 victories in 2019 with a 3-3 mark in Western State Conference play. The Pirates closed the year with a victory over Santa Monica to claim third place in the WSC.
Austin Brunk, Ryan Reardon and Brandyn Robles headline the Pirates' men's water polo team's All-Western State Conference honorees for the 2019 season. The trio were all named first-team all-conference in voting by the WSC coaches earlier this month. Daniel Mcleans and Jake Peters received second-team All-WSC nods while Gabriel Ibarra, Brandon Bence and Julian Larios all earned Honorable Mention honors.
The VC men's water polo team closed out the 2019 season with a third place finish in the Western State Conference Tournament Friday and Saturday at LA Valley. The No. 3-seeded Pirates dropped a 15-5 decision to No. 2 Cuesta in Friday's semifinal before coming back to defeat No. 4 Santa Monica 14-8 Saturday to claim third place in the draw. Jake Peters had four goals in the two games to lead the Pirates while Ryan Reardon and Austin Brunk scored three goals each for VC (11-15, 3-3).
The VC men's water polo team traveled to Chula Vista on Friday and Saturday to play in the 1st Annual Dia De Los Muertos Tournament at Southwestern College. The Pirates went 1-3 over the two days, including a 19-14 win over Fullerton on Friday and a close setback against Cypress Saturday morning. Austin Brunk had 14 goals, five assists, 13 field blocks and seven steals over the weekend while Ryan Reardon netted 15 goals with nine steals in the four games for Ventura (10-14, 2-2).
The VC men's water polo team split a pair of games Friday at the Santa Monica Mini Tournament. Ventura (9-11, 2-2) dropped a 16-13 decision to El Camino in the opener before routing San Dieog Miramar 23-11 in the second game of the day. Ryan Reardon scored 10 goals on the day with five assists while Brandon Berce and Austin Brunk each found the cage seven times. Daniel Mclean had 12 saves and five blocks in goal in the two games for the Pirates.
The VC men's water polo team has shown great improvement during the 2019 season. On Wednesday, however, they learned how much farther they have to go in dropping a 24-10 decision to No. 3-ranked Los Angeles Valley in Valley Glen. Brandyn Robles and Ryan Reardon each scored three goals and Austin Brunk added three steals as the Pirates trailed 13-3 at halftime in the setback.
Continuing to show their fight and determination, the Pirates' men's water polo team dropped a pair of hard-fought contests to conclude the Saddleback Tournament on Saturday in Mission Viejo. VC fell to El Camino 16-10 in the first game of the day before having their comeback fall just short against Modesto, 14-13 in the tournament finale. Ryan Reardon and Austin Brunk and Brandyn Robles each netted five goals on the day for VC (6-5, 1-1).
The Pirates' men's water polo team wona pair of games Saturday at the Ventura Aquatic Center, defeating Crafton Hills 21-4 before outlasting the VC Alumni 24-18. Ryan Reardon led the way with nine goals and three steals in the two games while Austin Brunk netted seven scores, three assists and six thefts. Daniel Mclean recorded 12 saves and nine blocks in the cage while Brandyn Robles had six goals and 12 assists for VC (4-2).
