Playing one of their best games of the year, the Pirates' men's water polo team gave No. 3-ranked LA Valley all they could handle before falling 13-7 Wednesday in Valley Glen. Cole Morter drew seven ejections with one assist and a steal and Kyle Goodrich had two helpers and two drawn exclusions for VC (9-14, 1-3).Tanner islander and Ryan Reardon each netted three goals in the match.

In a game that was tight throughout, freshman Tanner Islander slipped near the goal on the left side, received a pass from Justin Bouse and scored the game-winning goal with 30 seconds remaining in the game. The Pirates defeated visiting Santa Monica 8-7 in Western State Conference play at the Ventura Aquatic Center. Ryan Reardon led VC (7-11, 1-2) with three goals and two drawn exclusions while Kyle Goodrich had a pair of scores with two steals against the Corsairs.

The Pirates' men's water polo team traveled to Glendora Wednesday afternoon, falling to Citrus College 17-7 in Western State Conference play. Jarrett Baldwin and Ryan Reardon each had two goals to lead VC in the match while Glenn Ishida, Tanner Islander and Brandon Bouse all had single scores.

The VC men's water polo team won a game and lost a game Saturday at the Saddleback Tournament in Mission Viejo. The Pirates (6-10) broke a five-game skid with a 15-8 victory over Modesto in the opener before falling 13-8 to the host Gauchos in the nightcap. Ryan Reardon had five goals and five assists on the day while Justin Bouse netted four scores with three steals for Ventura.

The VC men's water polo team kept the match close for a half, but fell off late in their Western State Conference opener against Cuesta Wednesday afternoon at the Ventura Aquatic Center. After heading into halftime tied at 5-5, Ventura (5-9, 0-1) gave up three straight goals to the Cougars in the 13-9 loss. Kyle Goodrich and Tanner Islander each scored three goals to lead the Pirates in the game.

Playing at home for the first time this season, the Ventura College men's water polo team pushed highly-ranked Long Beach City College before falling to the Vikings 17-10. VC (5-6) led at the end of the first quarter, and trailed by one at halftime before a third quarter collapse established the result. Ryan Reardon had four goals to lead VC while Glen Ishida scored three times.

The Pirates' men's water polo team continued their one-up, one-down season on Sunday with a split of a pair of matches to conclude the Mt. San Antonio College Tournament . Ventura (5-5) outmatched Southwestern 20-8 before falling to Orange Coast 16-8 in games played at Citrus College in Glendora. VC's depth showed through the day as nine different Pirates scored a goal in the two games and the team had three goalkeepers play significant minutes, as well.

The VC men's water polo team showed progress Friday in splitting a pair of rematches from early season games at the Mt. San Antonio College Tournament in Walnut. In the opener, VC narrowly fell to the host Mounties 12-11 on a last-minute goal before coming from behind in the final quarter for a 12-11 victory over Fullerton in the nightcap. Ryan Reardon had four goals and three steals on the day and Glenn Ishida also netted four scores for Ventura (4-4).

Playing the final day of the Citrus Tournament down the road at Mt. San Antonio College, the Pirates' men's water polo team went 1-1 Saturday. VC produced a big win against Grossmont 17-10 in the first game of the day before dropping what was essentially a road match against Mt. SAC, 15-13. Ryan Reardon led the way for Ventura (3-3) with eight goals on the day while Kyle Goodrich had four assists and four steals. Goalie Derek Gamberutti recorded 14 saves.

Playing their first competition against community college teams, the Pirates' men's water polo team split a pair of matches at the Citrus Tournament in Glendora. VC could not make a halftime advantage hold up against Fullerton in the first match of the day, falling to the Hornets 11-8. VC rebounded to take a 15-13 victory against Chaffey in the nightcap.

The Ventura College men's water polo team opened the 2017 season Saturday, splitting a pair of matches against NCAA Division III schools at Chaffey College in Rancho Cucamonga. The Pirates opened with a 15-10 victory over Cal Tech before dropping the nightcap to University of La Verne 16-7. Glenn Ishida scored six goals on the day with three steals.
