Daland, Howard Lead Pirates on Men's Polo All-WSC

VC freshmen CJ Daland and Clint Howard each were named first-team All-Western State Conference in men's water polo leading six Pirates on the all-conference list voted upon by conference coaches last month. The two utuility players were the team's leading scorers on offense and played an integral role on defense in a season in which Ventura went 20-14, posting the team's first 20-win campaign in a decade.

Kyle Goodrich had three goals and two assists as the Pirates fell to Cuesta 14-7 Saturday in the 3rd Place game of the WSC Tournament.
VC Ends Season at WSC Tourney, Shows Improvement for the Future

The Ventura College men's water polo team were defeated by host Cuesta College 14-7 in the 3rd Place game at the Western State Tournament Saturday in San Luis Obispo. Kyle Goodrich scored three goals with a pair of assists to lead the Pirates, who finish the season in fourth place in the conference despite tying for the top spot in the regular-season.

The Pirates' men's water polo team got off to a slow start and never recovered in their Western State Conference semifinal match up with Citrus Friday afternoon in San Luis Obispo. The Pirates trailed 4-0 in the opening period and were defeated by the Owls 17-11. CJ Daland had four goals and an assist to lead VC (20-13, 3-2) and Kyle Goodrich netted three scores with a pair of assists.

Water Polo Splits Pair Against Masters in Home Finale

The Ventura College men's water polo team closed the regular season with a double header against the Ventura Masters Club team at the Ventura Aquatic Center Saturday morning. The Pirates were victorious in the first contest 17-14 before falling in the second, 15-9. With the win, VC (20-12, 3-1) topped the 20-win plateau for the season.

The Pirates' men's water polo team fell twice Saturday in Costa Mesa at the Orange Coast Mini Tournament. VC (19-11, 3-1) fell to Grossmont in overtime, 13-11 in the opener before dropping a 19-9 decision to the host Orange Coast Pirates in the nightcap. Coby Wiegman totaled six goals on the day while Kyle Goodrich had five scores.

VC Wins Pair at Santa Monica Mini

The Ventura College men's water polo team won a pair of matches Friday at the Eduard “Tuna” Gorodetsky Mini Tournament at Santa Monica Friday. VC won a pair of rematches, defeating Los Angeles Trade Tech for the second time this season, 19-10, before besting El Camino for a second time 18-7. Clint Howard had a solid all-around day with six goals, five steals, four assists and three drawn exclusions.

The Pirates' men's water polo team had mixed results to close the Cuesta Tournament in San Luis Obispo Saturday. VC defeated Ohlone 12-6 in an early morning match before being outscored 11-3 in the second half in falling to Sierra 15-10. CJ Daland had six goals for Ventura (17-9, 3-1) and Kyle Goodrich netted five scores.

Men's Water Polo Off to Slow Start at Cuesta Tournament

The Pirates' men's water polo team go off to a slow start at the Cuesta Tournament in San Luis Obispo Friday. VC (16-8, 3-1) fell to Cuesta in the opener in their final regular season conference match before falling to a 8-7 decision against Merced. The Pirates finished up strong, however, with a 19-18 overtime win over Cabrillo in the nightcap.

Kevin Smallwood scored the game-winning goal with 1:08 remaining in the second overtime as VC defeated LA Valley 9-8 Wednesday at the Ventura Aquatic Center.
Pirates Ride Roller Coaster to Overtime Victory

The VC men's water polo team took a roller coaster ride to a 9-8 overtime victory over visiting Los Angeles Valley Wednesday at the Ventura Aquatic Center. VC let a 4-1 halftime lead slip away, and fell behind 8-7 in the final minute before Coby Wiegman tied the score with just seven seconds remaining in regulation. After a scoreless first overtime period, CJ Daland assisted a breakaway goal by Kevin Smallwood with 1:08 remaining in the second extra stanza to lift the Pirates to victory.

Pirates Continue Strong Season at Santa Monica

Continuing Western State Conference play, the Ventura College men's water polo team traveled to Santa Monica Wednesday, coming away with an 11-6 victory over the Corsairs. CJ Daland led the offense with five goals while Coby Wiegman anchored the defense with five steals in the Pirate victory.

The Pirates' men's water polo team split a pair of games Saturday to conclude the Saddleback Invitational in Mission Viejo. VC defeated El Camino 15-5 in the first contest of the morning before falling to the host Gauchos 11-9 in a tough contest in the tournament finale. Isaac Alvary had five goals in the two matches to lead the Pirates (13-6, 1-0).

Playing in the Saddleback Invitational in Mission Viejo, the Pirates' men's water polo team put together a pair of solid wins, 15-7 over Modesto and 18-13 against San Deigo Miramar. Kevin Smallwood had a solid defensive day with nine steals to lead VC (12-5, 1-0) while Clint Howard scored eight goals in the two matches.

The Ventura College men's water polo team opened Western State Conference play Wednesday with a solid 10-8 victory over visiting Citrus at the Ventura Aquatic Center. CJ Daland netted three goals for the Pirates (10-5) with an assist, two drawn ejections and three steals.

Making their home debut, the VC men's water polo team posted a pair of victories Saturday at the Ventura Aquatic Center. The Pirates defeated the VC Alumni 20-13 in the morning game before besting the Ventura Masters Club 14-12 in the afternoon. Cj Daland continued his offensive prowess with 10 goals on the day with two assista dn three steals and Coby Weigman netted five scores in the two matches.

The Ventura College men's water polo team dropped a pair of contests to NCAA Division III foes on Friday afternoon at Cal Lutheran University in Thousand Oaks. The Pirates fell to the host Kingsmen 19-5 in the first contest of the day before dropping a 15-6 decision to Occidental College in the second. CJ Daland had four goals in the two matches while Clint Howard had eight ejections drawn.

The Pirates' six-game winning streak came to an end with a pair of losses Saturday at the Mt. SAC Tournament in walnut. VC fell to Palomar 14-11 in a close contest before dropping the finale to the host Mounties 16-7. CJ Daland had seven goals and five steals in the two losses And Clint Howard scored three times with four steals.
