Coimbra and Mondroha advance to state quarterfinals

VC's doubles team of Caua Coimbra and Abladj Mondroha advanced to the quarterfinal round of the 3C2A State Championships in play Friday in The Ojai Tournament. MEanwhile, Victor Peyrebonne and Shingo Ono moved forward to the Round of 32 before being eliminated in doubles while Peyrebonne and Coimbra each played into the Round of 32 in the singles draw.

Coimbra and Mondroha won their Round of 32 match 6-2, 6-2 against a duo from Mt. San Jacinto, then defeated a Bakersfield team 6-1, 6-1 to move forward into Saturday's state quarterfinals.

Peyrebonne and Ono defeated a pair from Foothill 7-5, 6-3 before being edged out of the draw in a super tiebreaker, 6-4, 4-6, 13-11, against San Diego City.

In singles play, Coimbra defeated a player from Fresno 6-1, 6-4 in the Round of 32 before being defeated by Chabot in a tight contest, 6-3, 7-5. Peyrebonne also won his Round of 32 match against American River, 6-2, 6-2, and lost in the ROund of 32 against an opponent from Bakersfield, 6-2, 6-0. Mondroha dropped his Round of 32 match against a player from San Diego City, 6-3, 6-1.

Coimbra and Mondroha will continue play in the state quarterfinals on Saturday Apr. 25 in The Ojai Tournament. The state championships conclude Sunday Apr. 26 in Ojai.
