Ventura Opens WSC Play With Sweep

The VC men's tennis team opened Western State Conference play Friday with a 9-0 sweep over Santa Barbara at the VC Tennis Center. Sophomore Robinson Pelluault was one of five players who moved up one slot in singles and still provided points in the triumph. The Pirates (5-3, 1-0) did not drop a set in singles play in defeating the Vaqueros.

The Pirates began the domination in doubles play with Cody Ray Emery and Rafael Matias winning the No. 1 slot, 8-2. Lucas Abreau and Thomas Lindner, along with Julian Tellez and Edgar Ploquin followed with 8-4 and 8-6 victories in the Nos. 2 and 3 matches, respectively.

Abreau earned the first point in singles, winning 6-1, 7-5 at No. 2 before Tellez won his No. 3 contest, 6-2, 6-3, to clinch the Pirate victory. Ploquin then won at No. 5, 7-5, 6-0, followed by Lindner at no. 6, 6-4, 6-3 and Matias at the top spot, 6-3, 6-1. Pelluault completed the sweep with a 6-4, 6-4 triumph at No. 4 singles.

Ventura continues WSC play on Tuesday Feb. 27, hosting Glendale at 12:30 pm.
