Pirates Third, Carcamo Runner-Up at SoCal Regionals
The Pirate golf team took full advantage of playing close to home Monday, placing third as a team in the 3C2A Southern California Regionals, earning a berth to next weeks state championships. Freddie Carcamo tied for medalist honors in the 36-hole event, but came up short in the first playoff hole to earn runner-up honors. The third place team finish ties for the program's best finish ever in a regional, matching the team result in 2009.

The third place team finish ties for the program's best finish ever in a regional, matching the team result in 2009.
Carcamo shot a 2-over 74 in the morning round to tie for eighth before firing a 3-under 69 in the afternoon to card a 36-hole score of 143. He tied for the low score of the day, but lost in the first playoff hole to claim runner-up honors.
As a team, VC maintained a consistent day, scoring 299 in the first round before posting a 299 in the second for a total score of593. Desert edged out Canyons for the team title, 587 to 588, just a few shots ahead of the Pirates. Orange Coast was fourth at 603, 10 strokes behind VC, and Victor Valley was fifth at 605.
Matthew Jones led the morning effort for Ventura with a 1-over 73 followed by Carcamo and Stephen Ong at 74. Nathan Schultz completed the team score with a 6-over 78 followed by Donovan Chappell (80) and Caden Raines (84).
In the afternoon, Carcamo went low followed by Chappell at 1-over. Schultz carded a 77 and Ong had a 79. Jones and Raines turned in scores of 82 and 86, respectively.
The Pirates will next compete in the 3C2A State Championships May 10-11 at Silver Rock Resort in La Quinta.
