Pirate Golf Finishes Seventh at Pt. Conception Open
The VC golf team opened the 2026 season with a seventh -place finish at the Pt. Conception Open held at the par-72 La Purisma Golf Course in Lompoc. The Pirates posted team scores of 316 and 326 Sunday and monday, respectively, to total 642 strokes, two shots behind a fifth-place tie with Citrus and San Joaquin Delta. Donovan Chappel led Ventura individually, recording 6-over 78's on both days ofthe tournament for a total of 156 to tie for ninth place overall.

Freddie Carcamo was the second Pirates in the standings with an 80/82, 162 score followed by Bradley Humphrey at 80/83, 163. Other VC golfers included Nathan Schultz (81/83, 164), Stephen Ong (78/96, 174) and Matthew Jones (87/97, 184).
College of the Desert won the 16-team event with a team score of 300 and Canyons was runner up with a 314. Cuyamaca (630) and Santa Barbara (634) followed in third and fourth before Citrus (640) and Delta (640).
Ventura will next hit the links on Monday Feb. 9 in the initial Western State Conference event of the season hosted by Glendale College at Oakmont Country Club.
