Pirates Secure WSC Title with Rout in Oxnard

The Pirates' men's basketball team used a blistering shooting display and a dominant effort on the glass to pull away from Oxnard for a 110-82 road victory on Friday reclaiming outright the Western State Conference North Division title. Baron Bellamy scored 23 points to lead five Pirates in double-figures in the balanced offensive attack in the triumph.

Ventura set the tone in the first half, pouring in 53 points while holding Oxnard to 38 to build a double-digit cushion by halftime. The Pirates continued to apply pressure after the break, outscoring the Condors 57-44 in the second half to remove any doubt and close out one of its most efficient offensive performances of the season.

VC shot 59.2 percent from the field (42-for-71) and 47.6 percent from 3-point range (10-for-21), consistently generating high-quality looks through crisp ball movement and disciplined spacing. The Pirates also controlled the interior, outscoring Oxnard 42-24 in the paint and finishing with a 37-22 edge on the boards.

Bellamy paced Ventura with 23 points on an efficient 8-for-11 shooting night, including 3-for-4 from beyond the arc and a perfect 4-for-4 at the free throw line in 31 minutes. Jerimiyah Smith anchored the frontcourt with 18 points and a game-high nine rebounds on 8-for-10 shooting, coming up just one board shy of a double-double. Kam'Ron Cigar added 15 points, knocking down three 3-pointers on his way to a 6-for-10 shooting line and Snookey Wigington netted 10 points with eight assists.

Ventura's depth also played a key role, with the Pirates' bench outscoring Oxnard's reserves 37-17. Jeremiah Wilson added 16 points in a reserve role, shooting 7-for-13 from the floor. The Pirates capitalized on Oxnard's mistakes with a 30-15 advantage in points off turnovers. The Pirates committed just 11 turnovers compared with 18 by the Condors, turning defensive stops into efficient half-court offense.

With the win, Ventura secures outright the 2026 WSC championship, the program's first crown since 2023 and its 27th overall and ninth in the past 13 seasons.  The Pirates will await their playoff placement, anticipating a home game on Saturday Feb. 28.
