Pirates race past RCC in WPH Tournament finale
The VC men's basketball team put together another solid, balanced perfromance Friday to race past Riverside 88-56 in the final of the We Play Hard Tournament presented by State Farm. Kam'ron Cigar led four players in double figures with 17 points for Ventura as they completed the two-game sweep in the season-opening set at the Athletic Event Center.

Cigar hit twice from downtown in the first half while scoring nine points in the opening 20 minutes. Christian Aukuso also scored nine in the opening period as the Pirates, ranked No. 12 in the state pre-season poll, held a 41-25 advantage over the Tigers at intermission.
Ventura (2-0) outscored RCC 47-31 in the second half to post the final margin.
Jerimiyah Smith netted 10 of his 16 points after halftime and Snookey Wigington also hit double-figures in the period with 10 of his total of 15 points in the second half. Aukuso finished with 11 points while Jeremiah Wilson and Baron Bellamy totaled eight points each in the game.
The Pirates will next travel to the Irvine Valley Classic Thursday and Friday, Nov. 6 and 7. Ventura begins the 4-team tournament taking on Canyons on Thursday at 5:00 pm.
