Pirates Rally in the Ninth to Beat Pierce

The Pirate baseball team rallied in the top of the ninth inning to post a 6-3 victory at Los Angeles Pierce College Friday in Woodland Hills. Peter Dufau hit a solo home run in VC's final at-bat to begin the three-run frame for the margin of victory. Mason Reid had a two-RBI triple and David King belted out three hits, including a double, with one run batted in. Anthony Cuevas scattered seven hits over six innings on the mound, giving up one run in his quality start for Ventura (19-18, 11-13).

Pirates Take Down Bulldogs in Road Win

The VC baseball team kept its post-season hopes alive Thursday with a 7-3 victory over Hancock in Santa Maria. Pirate ace Luca Staiano scattered four hits and yielded two runs while striking out four over seven complete innings of work. Bryce Elias had a solo home run among his three hits and he scored three runs to lead the offense and Mason Reid had three hits and a run batted in for the Pirates (18-18, 10-13).

Baseball Drops Final Home Game to Oxnard

The VC baseball team dropped an 11-9 decision to visiting Oxnard in their final game of the season at Pirate Park on Friday. David King had a pair of hits and three runs batted in while Evan DeVally hit a single and a double with a pair of RBI and a run scored. Mason Reid scored three runs for the Pirates (17-17, 9-12) as their post-season hopes took a hit against the Condors.

Pirate Baseball Comes Home with Two Wins

The VC baseball team traveled to San Luis Obispo Thursday and came home with a pair of victories over Cuesta. VC defeated the Cougars 7-6 in the continuation of a suspended game from March 4, needing just one inning and Aaron McLeod beating out a possible double-play ball to score Bryce Elias for the win. In the regularly scheduled game, Peter Dufau hit a three-run home run in the top of the seventh to provide the game-winning scores for the 8-7 triumph.

Staiano Solid in Hard-Luck Loss Against Moorpark

Pirate starting pitcher Luca Staiano had a great outing Tuesday, limiting Moorpark to three hits and two runs, one earned, through seven innings of work at Pirate Park. The VC offense could not pick up the tab, however, recording just three hits in Ventura's 5-1 setback against the Raiders. Yuki Kawashima had a pair of hits, including a double and scored the only run of the game for the Pirates (15-16, 7-11).

9th-Inning Rally Falls Short for Pirates

The Pirate baseball team mounted a tqo-out rally in the top of the ninth inning Thursday at Los Angeles Pierce, but fell one run short with the game-tying run in scoring position in their 7-6 loss to the Brahmas. Peter Dufau had three hits, including an RBI double in the final frame, to lead Ventura while Dylan Jackson had a pair of hits with a run scored and one run batted in. Anthony Cuevas gave VC a chance with 4.1 innings of scoreless relief on the mound.

Baseball Routs Brahmas, 12-1

The VC baseball team had an easy time with Los Angeles Pierce Tuesday at Pirate Park, defeating the Brahmas 12-1. Luca Staiano gave up one unearned run through six complete innings on the mound to pick up the win while Harrison Cordeiro and Jathan Magana combined for three frames of shutout ball. Jacob Tostado had two hits, including a double, with three runs batted in and David King knocked in a pair of runs for the Pirates (14-14, 6-9).

Baseball Unable to Hold Early Lead Against Bulldogs

The Pirate baseball team raced to a 4-0 advantage through four innings Thursday at Pirate Park before falling to Hancock 6-5 in Western State Conference action. Dylan Jackson had an RBI double and Yuki Kawashima recorded two hits, including a triple, and scored twice to lead Ventura (13-13, 5-8). Harrison Cordeiro pitched three innings of scoreless relief to give VC a chance down the stretch.

Ventura Makes in Three of Four Against Citrus

The Pirate baseball team won its third game in its last four outings on Friday with a 7-4 victory over Citrus at Pirate Park. Bryce Elias hit a pair of triples with two runs scored and two runs batted in to lead the way and Yuki Kawashima recorded a pair of hits while scoring a run. A team of five relievers came out of the bullpen for VC, throwing five innings and giving up one run on two hits to hold the victory for the Pirates (12-12, 4-7).

Ninth-Inning Score Gives Pirates Win at Irvine

The VC baseball team scored a run in the top of the ninth inning to squeeze past Irvine Valley 8-7 Thursday afternoon in Irvine. Jacob Tostado's lead-off single in the final frame led to him scoring the game-winning run on Dylan Jackson's squeeze bunt. Aaron McLeod hit a 3-run home run for the Pirates in the fifth. Bryce Zavala had a quality start throwing five innings and scattering six hits while giving up two runs and Harrison Cordeiro pitched the final three innings to record the victory for Ventura (11-12, 4-7).

VC Can't Make Comeback Against Compton

The Pirates baseball team outscored visiting Comptoin 4-2 in the final three innings, but it was not enough to overcome an early deficit as Ventura fell to the Tartars 9-6 Friday afternoon. Haiden Letzing was 2-4 with a walk, two runs scored and one run batted in and Peter Dufau was 2-3 with a double, two RBI and a run scored. Dylan Jackson recorded two RBI and two hits in the non-conference game for VC (10-12, 4-7). Luca Staiano had a solid start pitching seven innings and giving up three earned runs.

Pirates Close with Final 6 Runs, Walk Off SBCC

The Pirate baseball team scored six runs over the final three innings to turn a 12-7 deficit at the seventh inning stretch into a 13-12 walk-off victory over Santa Barbara Saturday at Pirate Park. Peter Dufau had a two-out RBI single to plate the winning run in the bottom of the ninth scoring Yuki Kawashima, who was 2-5 in the game with a grand slam home run, two stolen bases, two runs scored and four runs batted in. Jaden Valdez pitched the final two frames to pick up the win on the mound for Ventura (10-11, 4-7).

VC Takes Series from Oxnard

The Pirate baseball team won their three-game series with Oxnard Saturday with an 8-3 victory over the Condors on the road. Haiden Letzing knocked in three runs and Yuki Kawashima, Jacob Tostado and Henry Borjas all scored twice. Anthony Cuevas came out of the bullpen to retire 13 of 14 batters faced to record the win for Ventura (9-9, 3-5).

Baseball Feasts with Big Win Over Oxnard

Its been feast or famine lately for the Pirate baseball team and Thursday's home game against Oxnard became an all-you-can-eat buffet. VC scored four runs in each of the first two innings en route to a 17-3 victory over the Condors at Pirate Park. Shortstop Jacob Tostado had four hits, including a double, and scored five runs while first baseman Haiden Letzing had a pair of hits with five runs batted in. Dominic Bayless pitched five complete innings, giving up two hits and one unearned run to pick up the win on the mound for Ventura (8-9, 2-5).

Pirates Fall at Oxnard

The VC baseball team yielded a pair of big innings at Oxnard, falling to the Condors 16-8. First baseman Haiden Letzing had three hits and scored a pair of runs and Aaron McCleod recorded two hits with a run scored. Aiden DeMello pitched two scoreless innings of relief for the Pirates.

Pirate second baseman Yuki Kawashima had three hits and four RBI Monday to lead the Pirates to a 6-6 tie against Cuesta when play was suspended after 13 innings on Monday. The game will resume on April 18 in San Luis Obispo.
Pirates and Cougars Suspend Play After 12 Innings

The Ventura College baseball team was tied with visiting Cuesta Monday evening 6-6 after 13 innings of play. The Pirates and Cougars will pick things up again before their final meeting of the season on April 18 in San Luis Obispo. Yuki Kawashima leads the Pirates with three hits and four runs batted in, including the game-tying RBI in the bottom of the ninth inning.

Ventura Drops WSC Decision at Cuesta

The Pirate baseball team traveled to San Luis Obispo Thursday, falling to Cuesta 9-4. Haiden Letzing, Brandon Contreras and Peter Dufau all had two hits each for VC. Contreras and Bryce Elias each recorded extra-base hits in the game and Dufau had a pair of runs batted in.

Baseball Falls in WSC Opener

It was one of those days for the Pirate baseball team as they dropped their Western State Conference North Division opener to rival Moorpark at Pirate Park on Thursday. Henry Borjas had three hits and a run scored for VC (6-5, 0-1) and Mason Reid hit a sacrifice fly for an RBI.

Staiano's Complete Game Propels VC to Win

VC pitcher Luca Staiano produced another stellar performance Friday, scattering six hits and giving up one run pitching a complete game at Riverside, leading a 3-1 Pirate victory. He also struck out eight batters in shutting down the talented Tiger line-up. Aaron McCloud had two hits, including a double, and scored a run while Haiden Letzing had a hit, stole a base and scored a run for Ventura (6-4).

Ventura Baseball Captures high-Scoring Affair at LA Mission

The VC baseball team survived a high-scoring game at Los Angeles Mission in Sylmar Tuesday, prevailing with a 22-17 victory over the hosts. Yuki Kawashima had Ventura's only extra base hit, an RBI triple in the second inning, while Mason Reid and Haiden Letzing each produced three hits and four runs batted in. Domingo Gaxiola came in out of the bullpen to settle the Pirates' pitching, throwing 5.1 innings while scattering six hits and allowing two runs, one earned, with four strikeouts.

Staiano Pitches Gem in Pirate Shutout Victory

Right handed pitcher Luca Staiano pitched a gem Saturday, leading the Pirate baseball team to a 4-0 victory at Citrus. The sophomore pitched six scoreless innings, allowing just two hits while striking out six batters against the Owls. Shortstop Jacob Tostado had a pair of doubles with two runs batted in and Yuki Kawashima also doubled and scored a run in for Ventura (4-3).

Six-Run Inning Propels Ventura Past El Camino

When the clouds parted and the sun came out, the Pirate baseball team found a nice turf field to play on at El Camino and came away with an 8-6 victory over the Warriors. Jacob Tostado had a pair of hits and three runs batted in and Yuki Kawashima hit a key two-RBI single in the six-run third inning to lead Ventura (3-3). Domingo Gaxiola pitched a pair of scoreless innings out of the bullpen to pick up the victory and Jaden Valdez retired the side in the ninth for the save.

Ventura Drops Roller Coaster Ride at AVC

JC baseball can be a roller coaster ride, and the Pirates found out first hand on Saturday afternoon at Antelope Valley. After spotting the Marauders an 8-0 lead through five innings, VC scored 11 over the to of the next two frames, only to see AVC plate 12 runs over the final four innings in Ventura's 20-11 loss. Bryce Elias hit a 2-run homer and Henry Borjas had three runs batted in and a run scored in the setback.

Four Late Runs Sends VC to Win at Canyons

The Pirate baseball team scored four runs in the final three innings, including back-to-back home runs by Dylan Jackson and Mason Reid in the top of the seventh, to defeat Canyons 7-4 Friday in Santa Clarita. Haiden Letzing was 4-5 with a run scored and a run batted in while Harrison Cordeiro pitched three scoreless innings in relief to earn the victory on the mound..

VC freshman Dylan Jackson had a pair of runs Saturday in the Pirates double-header with San Joaquin Delta, and hit a 3-RBI double in the nightcap as the Pirates won the final game of the series against the Mustangs, 5-3.
Pirates Split Twin Bill with Mustangs

The Pirate baseball team split a double header with San Joaquin Delta College Saturday at Pirate Park, dropping the opener 11-4 before claiming the nightcap, 5-2. Dylan Jackson scored a pair of runs on the day and delivered a bases-clearing double in the nightcap to lead Ventura (1-2) to their first win of the year. Yuki Kawashima also scored twice on the day with a hit, a walk and an RBI. Dominic Bayless pitched into the fifth inning in Game 2 to pick up the victory.

Baseball Opens With Close Setback Against Delta

On a perfect day for baseball, the Pirates opened their 2024 season with a hard-fought 10-8 setback against San Joaquin Delta College at Pirate Park. Brandon Contreras made his debut in orange and black with a pair of hits, including a solo home run, and two runs batted in and freshman Henry Borjas recorded two hits with an RBI and a run scored. Sophomores Haiden Letzing and Yuki Kawashima each scored two runs for Ventura (0-1) in the debut of new head coach David Soliz.
