Pirate Baseball Earns National Recognition for Academic Excellence

The American Baseball Coaches Association is proud to recognize the nearly 700 member college and high school programs from across the country that have been awarded the 2021-22 ABCA Team Academic Excellence Award, which is presented by Sports Attack. VC achieved an overall grade point average of 3.30 for the entire 2021-22 academic year to earn recognition from the ABCA.

Baseball Upends Moorpark in Regular Season Finale

The Pirate baseball team ended the regular season on a high note Saturday with an 11-1 victory over Moorpark at Pirate Park. Cooper Smith had an outstanding start on the mound, scattering three hits over six complete innings facing one batter over the minimum while keeping the Raiders scoreless. Reiss Calvin was 4-5 at the plate with a double, three runs scored and two runs batted in to lead the 12-hit Pirate attack.

Ventura first baseman John Oleson was 2-4 with a double and a walk, scoring a run and batting in two more to help lead the Pirates to an 11-9 victory over Hancock Thursday at Pirate Park.
Pirates Hold Off Bulldogs in Home Victory

The visiting Allan Hancock College scored the first five and the final four runs of the game. It was the 11 runs in the middle scored by the VC baseball team that made the difference, however, as the Pirates held off the Bulldogs 11-9 at Pirate Park on Thursday. Ventura's top three batters JR Godinez, Reiss Calvin and John Oleson all recorded two runs batted in to lead the way while Ramon Torres hit a home run and scored twice. Jared Hughes pitched six innings of relief to pick up the win on the mound.

VC third baseman Julien Monks had an RBI in the Pirates' five-run seventh inning, but Ventura could not complete their comeback at Santa Barbara, falling 11-5 Saturday afternoon.

The Pirate baseball team's quest for the post-season took a hit on Saturday with an 11-5 loss at Santa Barbara. In a battle for second place in the Western State Conference North Division, the Vaqueros took a 7-0 lead before Ventura got on the board with a five-run seventh. Julien Monks had an run batted in and Reiss Calvin knocked in two, but VC could not complete the comeback.

The Pirate baseball team had its comeback bid fall short Tuesday in their 7-5 setback at Cuesta, Ventura (19-16, 12-7) trailed 7-3 before scoring a pair of runs in the top of the eighth, but they could get no closer to the conference-leading Cougars. The Pirate baseball team had an excellent game, except for one inning. Leading 7-0 entering the bottom of the seventh, the Pirates allowed 16 batters to come to the plate scoring 11 runs as VC dropped the 11-7 decision under the lights at Mt. San Antonio. Andrew Savage had a pair of hits with two runs batted in and a run scored and Casey Turturici recorded two hits, including a triple, with one RBI and one run scored to lead the Pirates (19-15, 12-6).

VC shortstop Ramon Torres was 3-5 on the day, including a double, with two runs scored and an RBI as the Pirates defeated LA Harbor 12-9 in Wilmington on Thursday.
Pirates Make it 10 out of 11 at LA Harbor

The Pirate baseball team won its 10th game in 11 outings on Thursday with a 12-9 victory at Los Angeles Harbor College in Wilmington. Ramon Torres was 3-5 with a double, two runs scored and a run batted in, and Nick Schnopp and Julien Monks each hit home runs to propel VC (19-14, 12-6). Andrew Savage and KJ Moo-Young also belted out three hits each while Dawson Radik picked up the win on the mound and Ryan Sweeney earned the save.

Ventura Baseball Tops Three Touchdowns in Win

With a score more indicative of a football game, the Ventura College baseball team scored a pair of touchdowns with three field goals to defeat West Los Angeles 23-10 Tuesday afternoon in Culver City. KJ Moo-Young had four hits, including a double, with four runs scored and four runs batted in to lead VC's 19-hit attack against the Wildcats. Jake Read picked up the win on the mound despite yielding seven runs over five innings of work with six strikeouts.

Pirates Come Back from Six Down for Victory

The Pirate baseball team trailed visiting Moorpark 6-0 in the middle of the third inning before rallying for a 14-9 victory over the Raiders Thursday. John Oleson paced the VC offense with five of the team's 19 hits with four runs batted in and a run scored while Casey Turturici had four hits, two of them doubles, with an RBI and a run scored. JR Godinez had three hits and scored four times and Julien Monks also recorded three hits, including a double, with three runs scored.

VC designated hitter Caset Turturici had a walk and scored, and provided the game-winning three-run home run in the eighth inning to lead the Pirates to a 7-5 come-from-behind win over LA Pierce Thursday.
Another Late-Inning Rally Leads to Pirate Win

The VC baseball team was the "visitor" on Thursday at Pirate Park, as LA Pierce "hosted" the game two of the three-game set, but the results were familiar for Ventura. The Pirates rallied for seven runs in the seventh and eighth innings to post a come-from-behind 7-5 win over the Brahmas, VC's fifth straight triumph and their ninth win in the past 11 games. Casey Turturici provided a game-winning three-run home run in the top of the eighth to set the final margin.

VC rightfielder Nick Schnopp had a two-RBI double in the top of the ninth Tuesday to tie the score in VC's 8-5 come-from-behind win at Hancock.
5-Run Ninth Leads to Pirate Win at Hancock

The Pirate baseball team score five runs in the top of the ninth inning Tuesday leading to an 8-5 victory over Allan Hancock College in Santa Maria. Nick Schnopp had a two-RBI double and JR Godinez hit a two-RBI single in VC's final at-bat to help secure the victory. Robby Keister pitched a scoreless bottom of the ninth to pick up the win for Ventura (10-13, 5-5).

Ventura designated hitter Casey Turturici was 2-4 with a home run and a double, two runs scored and two runs batted in to lead the Pirate baseball team toits fourth consecutive win, 9-3 over Santa Barbara Tuesday at Pirate Park. JR Godinez and KJ Moo-Young scored two runs each as VC (9-11, 4-3) used a six-run fifth inning to put the game away. Jake Read threw six complete innings, giving up three earned runs while striking out five to pick up the win on the mound.

Calvin Hits For The Cycle to Lead Pirates to Win

VC second baseman Reiss Calvin has had a solid start to his career for the Pirates. That start was accentuated Thursday when he hit for the cycle with six runs batted in leading Ventura to an 11-5 victory over Oxnard at Pirate Park. Calvin hit a two-run home run in the first, a two-RBI double in the fifth, a single in the seventh, and a two-RBI triple in the eighth for the rare baseball feat. Julien Mons had three hits, including a double, with two RBI in a supporting role for Ventura (7-11, 2-3).

Starting pitcher Jake Read threw four innings with five strikeouts and the VC bullpen pitched five scoreless frames as the Pirates defeated Oxnard 10-4 Tuesday on the road.
Pirate Baseball Bounces Back at Oxnard

The VC baseball team bounced back with a 10-4 victory at Oxnard College Tuesday afternoon in the first game of a three-game series. Jake Read started on the hill and pitched four innings with five strikeouts and the VC bullpen threw five scoreless innings to preserve the win. Reiss Calvin and John Oleson led the 21-hit attack with four hits each and JR Godinez and Nick Schopp each produced three hits for the Pirates (6-11, 1-3).

The VC baseball team dropped its Western State Conference opener Tuesday 12-6 against Cuesta Collega at Pirate Park. Ventura held a 2-0 lead after three innings, but a four-run fourth by the Cougars turned the tables. John Oleson was 2-4 for the Pirates with a home run and three runs batted in and Casey Turturici also went yard with a pair of RBI. Reiss Calvin scored two runs in the game.

Baseball Scores Early, Often to Outscore Citrus

The VC baseball team plated runs in eight of its nine at bats Saturday in posting a 14-9 victory over Citrus at Pirate Park. John Oleson was 3-5, including a double, with three runs scored and a run batted in while Casey Turturici had three hits, two doubles, with three RBI and a run scored. Reiss Calvin hit a triple and a single with four RBI and a run scored as the Pirates pounded out 16 base hits against the Owls on the afternoon. Cooper Smith pitched into the sixth inning and Dawson Radik threw 3.2 innings of relief to pick up the win.

It is becoming a theme with the Pirate baseball team that at big inning can make or break their chances in any given game. On Friday, the big inning went against Ventura as they gave up an eight-run fifth in their 11-8 setback at College of the Canyons in Valencia. Hunter Jones pitched well into the fifth before leaving the game during the Cougars' rally. Right Fielder Nick Schnopp had three hits, including a double, with one run scored and one run batted in to pace VC (4-8).

Pirates Make Big Inning Hold Up Against RCC

The VC baseball team scored seven runs in the bottom of the second inning Thursday and made it hold up in their 7-6 victory over Riverside at Pirate Park. Reiss Calvin and Casey Turturici each had two-RBI doubles in the frame as Ventura opened up a 7-1 lead against the Tigers, who scored runs in the sixth, seventh and eighth innings in their comeback bid. Max Flame picked up the win on the mound with five innings of work, allowing two hits and one run.
