Pirate Baseball Inks Two to Early D1 Signings
The Ventura College baseball program is proud to announce two early Division I signings for the Class of 2017. Sophomore right hand pitchers Austin Rubick and Justin Friedman both signed National Letters of Intent during the early signing period this month. After the 2017 season in Ventura, Rubick with continue his academic and athletic careers at the University of Hawaii and Friedman will transfer to the University of San Diego.

After the 2017 season in Ventura, Rubick will continue his academic and athletic careers at the University of Hawaii and Friedman will transfer to the University of San Diego.
Rubick is a Buena High School product who played at the University of Arizona in 2016. The right-handed pitcher made 10 appearances for the Wildcats last season with five strikeouts. At Buena High School he was a three-year letterwinner while compiling 21 wins with a 1.34 ERA with 229 strikeouts in 177 innings. He had six complete games for the Bulldogs and posted an 8-2 record as a senior.
Friedman, a right-handed pitcher, is a transfer from George Washington University who was third on the team with 22 appearances last season, posting a 3.42 ERA across 26.1 innings. He limited opponents to a .220 batting average with 24 strikeouts and 27 walks. The Pingery School product from Pittstown, NJ was one of the top pitching prospects in the state coming out of high school in 2015.
The Pirates open their 2017 season on Friday Jan. 27 in the Bakersfield Tournament.
