Pirates Swept by No. 1 Oxnard

They put up a fight until the end, but ultimately the Pirate baseball team did not have enough to tackle the No. 1-ranked Oxnard Condors. VC dropped a 7-3 decision Thursday at Pirate Park as Oxnard swept the season series from the Pirates. Ventura (9-17, 5-9) allowed five unearned runs in the fourth inning on a two-out rally following an error in the game-deciding frame. Harrison Crawford was the only Pirate with two hits and he also scored a run. David Newland had a two-RBI single in the ninth inning and Shayne Distl knocked in a run with a single in the eighth.
