VC BVB Sweeps Pair at Mt. SAC

The Ventura College beach volleyball team swept a pair of matches Friday at Mt. San Antonio, defeating Orange Coast 5-0 before defeating the host Mounties 4-1. Madison Mierau and Beira Boyso provided the Pirates (5-1) with a pair of 2-0 sweeps while Sadie Lishman and Jocelyn Alfar, along with Addison Olson and Monaye Ramessar each had a sweep and a come-from-behind win. Shai Daniels and Viola Barrios won a pair of matches on the day, each in three sets.

In the opener against Orange Coast, VC swept the Pirates from the South dropping just one set in the match. Lishman and Alfar won their No. 2 contest 21-18, 21-11 and Olson and Ramessar swept Court 3, 21-6, 21-8. Mierau and Boyso captured the No. 4 match 21-15, 21-10 and Callie Cahill and Chelsea Torres won in the No. 5 slot, 21-18, 21-11. Meanwhile, Daniels and Barrios were extended to a third set on Court 1, 21-17, 18-21, 15-8.

The Pirates were pushed by the hosts, winning 4-1 in a match that was closer than the final score indicated. Mierau and Boyso captured the only straight-sets win for Ventura, winning the No. 4 match, 21-10, 21-18. Daniels and Barrios were again pushed to three sets in the top contest, winning 21-17, 13-21, 15-12. Lishman and Alfar, and Olson and Ramessar each had to come from behind to win their matches. Lishman and Alfar fell behind 21-19 before winning 21-14 and 15-11 to claim their Court 2 point while Olson and Ramessar fell 21-17 in the first set before coming back 21-13, 16-14 to win at No. 3.

Ventura next travels to San Diego on Friday Feb. 27 to take on San Diego City and San Diego Miramar colleges.
