Three pairs team from the VC beach volleyball team advanced Friday on the first of two days of the Western State Conference Championships at the Ventura Harbor Cove Courts. The Pirates' No. 1 duo of Kayla Murdoch and Autumn Rojelio Moreno and the No. 2 pair of Olivia Sletten and Ashley Johnson each moved toward a semifinal showdown while the No. 3 team of Averi Carter and Katey Mulville won their first match before being knocked to the consolation bracket with a setback in their second.
The VC beach volleyball team posted a pair of sweeps over Moorpark and Santa Monica, respectively, to finish the first of three rounds of Western State Conference play unbeaten. The Pirates' No. 3 team of Katey Mulville and Averi Carter won the clincher in both contests, and also prevailed in the only three-set match of the day against Moorpark.
The VC beach volleyball team added a pair of sweeps to its non-conference schedule Friday, defeating Mt. San Jacinto and Cerritos each by 5-0 scores without dropping a set against the Eagles and Falcons. The Pirates' Kayla Murdoch and Autumn Rojelio Medrano, Olivia Slettem and Ashley Johnson, and Katey Mulville and Averi Carter all posted two wins each on the day for VC (8-1).
It was a picture perfect day at the Harbor Cove Courts in Ventura Friday as the Pirates swept Palomar 5-0 in their home opener for the 2023 season. Ventura (3-0) did not drop a set against the Comets in the triumph. Kayla Murdoch and Autimn Rojelio Moreno continued their perfect season at No. 1 while Averi Carter and Katey Mulville teamed up for their second win of the year at No. 3.
