Beach Volleyball Begins 2022 With Two Sweeps
The VC beach volleyball team opened their 2022 season with a pair of 5-0 sweeps at Mt. San Antonio College Friday. The Pirates began the day with a win over Riverside before besting the hosts in their second contest. The pairs of Savannah Marchese and Averi Carter, and Grace Williams and Madelyn Grajada both did not drop a set in posting victories against the Tigers and Mounties, respectively.

The pairs of Savannah Marchese and Averi Carter, and Grace Williams and Madelyn Grajeda both did not drop a set in posting victories against the Tigers and Mounties, respectively.
In the opener, the Pirates (2-0), made easy work of the shorthanded Tigers. Jocelyn Montoya and Ana Medrano won their No. 5 slot when Riverside did not have pair competing and Amaris Garcia and Katey Mulville came from behind to win at No. 4, 14-21, 21-7, 15-7. Marchese and Carter prevailed in their No. 1 match in straight sets, 21-9, 21-10, while Monica Montoya and Lexi Donnelly came back from a set down to win at No. 2, 16-21, 21-9, 15-5.Williams and Grajeda completed the sweep with a 21-8, 21-98 triumph at No. 3.
In the nightcap, VC continued its run with a 5-0 sweep over the hosts. Garcia and Mulville swept their No. 5 match, 21-15, 21-19, while Alexis Baloyo and Amelie Zubia made their season debut with a 18-21, 21-15, 18-16 triumph at No. 1. Williams and Grajeda clinched the match with their 21-15, 21-16 win at No. 4 before Marchese and Carter easily swept their opponents at no. 2, 21-6, 21-12. M. Montoya and Donnelly completed the Pirate sweep in the No. 3 slot, 21-18, 21-16.
Ventura next travels to Huntington Beach on Friday Feb. 11 to take on Rio Hondo and host Santa Ana at the Newland Courts.
