Ventura Beach Volleyball Takes Two More WSC Matches

The Ventura College volleyball team claimed another pair of matches Friday in contests played at Santa Monica. VC defeated the host Corsairs 4-1 in the first match of the day before prevailing over Victor Valley in the second by an identical margin. The No. 5 team of Carina Cates and Danielle Garcia recorded a pair of straight set wins for the Pirates (11-6, 6-2) on the day.

The Ventura College volleyball team claimed another pair of matches Friday in contests played at Santa Monica. VC defeated the host Corsairs 4-1 in the first match of the day before prevailing over Victor Valley in the second by an identical margin. The No. 5 team of Carina Cates and Danielle Garcia recorded a pair of straight set wins for the Pirates (11-6, 6-2) on the day.

In the first match, the Pirates defeated Santa Monica 4-1. Taylor Bentiez-Fanslow and Shea Mckeown had an easy sweep at No. 3, 21-5, 21-11 while Cates and Garcia swept at No. 5, 21-11, 21-13. Sofia Gomez and Jordan Neria also swept their No. 4 match 22-20, 21-12 and Armonee Hunter and Kasie Spencer prevailed in three sets at No. 2, 21-19, 14-21, 15-11. Braxton Jessie and Janessa Simental fell in a hard-fought three-set match at No. 1, 21-17, 13-21, 15-8.

Against Victor Valley, the Pirates posted another 4-1 triumph. Bentiez-Fanslow and Mckeown swept past their opponents 21-9-21-6 to lead VC. Cates and Garcia along with Hunter and Spencer also posted sweeps, 21-7, 21-15 and 21-19, 22-20, respectively. Jessie and Simental came from behind to pull out a three-set win, 18-21,21-17, 15-4 while Gomez and Neria dropped a heartbreaker, 21-17, 11-21, 16-14.

Ventura closes out the regular season on Friday April 20 in matches held at Cal State Bakersfield. They will take on Antelope Valley at 11:30 am and Moorpark at 12:45 pm.
