Pirates Battle PCC Club, AVC and Elements to Win Two Matches
On a cold, blustery day at the Ventura Marina, the Pirates' beach volleyball team battled the elements and their opponents to capture matches against visiting Pasadena City Club and Antelope Valley Friday. VC (4-3) shut out PCC Club in the opening match of the day 5-0 before winning a convincing 4-1 decision over Antelope Valley in the second. Sofia Gomez and Jordan Neria at No. 4 and Carina Cates and Danielle Garcia at No. 5 were each dominant in taking two matches on the day, allowing 37 and 38 points, respectively, in their four sets.

VC (4-3) shut out PCC Club in the opening match of the day 5-0 before winning a convincing 4-1 decision over Antelope Valley in the second. Sofia Gomez and Jordan Neria at No. 4 and Carina Cates and Danielle Garcia at No. 5 were each dominant in taking two matches on the day, allowing 37 and 38 points, respectively, in their four sets.
In the opener, the Pirates swept the visiting PCC Club 5-0. Gomez and Neria won the No. 4 match 21-10, 21-2 while Cates and Garcia won at No. 5, 21-6, 21-9. Braxton Jessie and Janessa Simental won easily in the No. 1 slot, 21-6, 21-5 and Armonee Hunter and Kasie Spencer triumphed at no. 2, 21-11, 21-3. Taylor Benitez-Fanslow and Shea Mckeown won in the No. 3 match, 21-10, 21-4.
The weather improved slightly later in the day as the Pirates took on conference foe Antelope valley in the non-conference tilt. Cates and Garcia dominated at No. 5 21-12, 21-11 while Gomez and Neria won at No. 4, 21-9, 21-16. Benitez-Fanslow and Mckeown defeated their opponents at the No. 3 slot 21-17, 21-9 and Hunter and Spencer outlasted their opponents at No. 2, 21-13, 25-23.
The Pirates next head to Huntington Beach for the Golden West Quad on Friday March 9. They will take on the host Rustlers and Fullerton, both from the Orange Empire Conference.
