Beach Volleyball Competes at CSU Northridge

The Pirates' beach volleyball team competed in the Ramon Calderon Cup at Cal State Northridge Friday, falling to the host Matadors and to Long Beach City College by identical 4-1 scores. Janessa Simental and Braxton Jessie captured the No. 1 match against CSUN in the opener while Armonee Hunter and Kasie Spencer won the No. 2 match in three games against the Vikings in the second contest of the day.

In the day's opening contest, the Pirates were competitive with the NCAA Division I Matadors. Simental and Jessie won their No. 1 match-up 21-14, 21-19 for the Pirates' lone victory in the match. 

In the second contest, the Pirates competed with Long Beach City College, one of the top beach programs in the state. Hunter and Spencer came from behind at No. 2 to defeat their opponents 15-21, 21-17, 15-8.

Ventura (2-3) next hosts Pasadena and Antelope Valley in non-conference action on Friday March 2. VC is slated to play PCC at 11:00 am before taking on AVC at 12:30 at the Harbor Cove Courts at the Ventura Marina.
