Jaiden Monroe & Leslie Torres, 2024-25 Athletes of the Year
All-American swimmer Jaiden Monroe and All-American soccer defender Leslie Torres have been named the Ventura College Pirates' Athletes of the Year for the 2024-25 academic year. They were both recognized on May 4 at the annual VC Athletics Hall of Fame Induction and Student Athlete Recognition Banquet.
All-American swimmer Jaiden Monroe and All-American soccer defender Leslie Torres have been named the Ventura College Pirates' Athletes of the Year for the 2024-25 academic year. They were both recognized on May 4 at the annual VC Athletics Hall of Fame Induction and Student Athlete Recognition Banquet.
Monroe, a freshman from Oxnard, claimed a pair of individual silver medals at the 3C2A State Championships in the 100-yard and 200-yard backstroke events. Additionally he finished fourth in the 100-yard backstroke at state. He was also part of three relays that placed in the top-13 at state. At the Western State Conference Championships, Monroe earned the Male Athlete of the Year honor claiming three individual gold medals. His win in the 100-yard butterfly set a new meet record. He also won a silver medal at conference a part of the 200-yard freestyle relay.
Torres punctuated her outstanding freshman campaign by earning second team Junior College Division III All-American accolades from the United Soccer Coaches for the 2024 season. The Pacifica High School product was also named the WSC North Division Defensive Player of the Year. She anchored a side that yielded 21 goals in 24 games, a .88 goals against average, and posted 11 shutouts in the team's 16 victories in 2024. She also added two goals and a pair of assists offensively.
