The VC men's tennis team had its dual season come to an end Tuesday in the opening round of the CCCAA Southern California Regional Playoffs with a 5-0 loss at No. 2-seed Irvine Valley College. After being swept in doubles play, The No. 7-seeded Pirates dropped Nos. 3 and 6 in singles to concede the match.
VC's Antonio Rosales led a host of Pirates whose play in the Western State Conference Championships on Friday and Saturday has qualified them for the CCCAA State Championships held at the Ojai Tournament later this month. Rosales had a win on Friday and two more on Saturday to advance to the WSC singles championship to be played Friday April 12 at the VC Tennis Center. In doubles, Rosales and partner Kyle Spiegelman, and the duo of Thiago Batista and Alexandre Campolina moved to the WSC semifinals, also to be played April 12.

Thiago Batista won in No. 5 singles 6-1, 6-2 to clinch the match for the Pirates (13-4, 6-2). VC won a pair of doubles matches to take an early 2-1 lead on the Griffins before sweeping through singles play.

The bottom half of the line-up shut out the Renegades as Alexandre Campolina, Thiago Batista and James Moulton swept the Nos. 4, 5, and 6 singles matches, respectively, with identical 6-0, 6-0 scores. Batista and doubles partner Charles De La Laurencie also shut out their opponents in No. 2 doubles, 8-0.

Thiago Batista won a close match in No. 5 singles, 7-5, 603, and the doubles team of Antonio Rosales and Kyle Speigelman won in No. 1 doubles, 9-8 (7-2).

Antonio Rosales teamed up with Kyle Spiegelman to prevail in No. 1 doubles, 8-1, before Rosales captured No.1 singles 6-1, 6-1 and Speigelman won in No. 4 singles, love and one. Alexandre Campolina, Thiago Batista and Charles De La Laurencie were also double winners on the day for VC (1-0).
