Patton, Turner and Bell Earn First Team All-WSC Honors

Ventura College's freshman trio of Tone Patton, Timothy Turner and Jelani Bell earned first team All-Western State Conference honors in voting by the WSC North Division coaches earlier this week. Additionally, Dayveon Bates wasn named Honorable Mention All-WSC. VC head coach Joey Ramirez was named Co-Coach of the year for leading the Pirates to a share of their fourth consecutive WSC North Division championship.

Ventura Fights to the End in Playoff Loss

Despite a valiant effort until the final buzzer, the Pirates' men's basketball team had their season come to an end Wednesday night with a 77-73 loss to LA Valley College at the Athletic Event Center in the first round of the CCCAA Southern California Regional Playoffs. Timothy Turner scored 21 points with nine assists and four rebounds while Tone Patton totaled 21 points with six boards and four dimes to lead the Ventura effort. Pirates Come Back Against Moorpark, Claim WSC Crown

The Pirates' men's basketball team was down, but certainly not out. They trailed visiting Moorpark by 19 points in the first half, and were down by 15 points early in the second half before coming back to defeat the Raiders 78-72 to claim a share of the Western State Conference North Division championship for the forth season in a row. Timothy Turner led the Pirates (17-11, 8-2) with 21 points and nine rebounds while Tone Patton had a double-double of 13 points and 11 boards.

VC freshman Dayveon Bates had a double-double of 18 points and 10 rebounds in the Pirates' contest at Cuesta College Tuesday in San Luis Obispo.
Pirate Men Drop Decision at Cuesta, Fall into First Place Tie

The VC men's basketball team did not have a pleasant trip to San Luis Obispo Tuesday night, dropping an 85-65 decision to host Cuesta College. Dayveon Bates had a double-double of 18 points and 10 rebounds, and Tone Patton and Jelani Bell added 14 and 12 points, respectively, but Ventura (16-11, 7-2) could not overcome the hot shooting by the Cougars. With the loss, the Pirates fall into a first place tie in the Western State Conference North Division standings with Cuesta and Allan Hancock College.

Pirates Hold Off Condors, Maintain First Place Standing

The Ventura College men's basketball team held off a pesky Oxnard College Condor team Saturday night at the Athletic Event Center, posting a 91-84 victory to remain in first place in the Western State Conference North Division. Tone Patton continued his strong play with 27 points, shooting 10-15 from the floor and 7-10 at the free throw line. He also pulled in seven rebounds. Timothy Turner and Lamont Landers each came off the bench to score 15 points for the Pirates (16-10, 7-1).

Second Half Surge Leads Pirates to Victory at SBCC

For some reason, the Sports Pavilion at Santa Barbara City College is a difficult place for the Ventura College basketball team to play. Saturday was no different as VC needed a second half surge to pull away from the host Vaqueros 92-75. Tone Patton had 24 points and eight rebounds while Keron Bailey totaled 19 points and 10 boards to lead the Pirates (15-9, 6-0) to the win. Timothy Turner added 14 points, five rebounds and four assists and Jelani Bell added 12 points and seven caroms.
