Volleyball Drops Heartbreaker in Five at Golden West

On the road for the first time in 2019, the VC volleyball team dropped a heartbreaker in five sets at Golden West College, 19-25, 30-28, 25-13, 13-25, 15-12. Brooklyn Wallet had another solid effort with 11 kills, hitting at a .500 clip, to go along with seven service aces and four blocks. Morgan Gallagher recorded 13 kills and five blocks in the match while Julia Stalker handed out 25 assists with 14 digs. Leslie Perez led the defense with 24 digs.

Ventura (1-2) won the opening set over the rustlers 25-19 before narrowly dropping the second, 30-28. Golden West rode the momentum to a 25-13 win in the third set before the Pirates turned things around in the fourth, 25-13, to force the deciding frame. In a tight battle, the hosts pulled away at the end for the 15-12 triumph to take the match, 3-2.

Raphaella Rosales showed all-around good play with six kills, 12 digs and three aces. Kassidy Wilson handed out 19 assists to go along with a pair of aces. Shantalle Ruiz and Tatum Teel recorded five and four blocks, respectively.

The Pirates will next host Pasadena City College on Wednesday Sept. 4 at 6:00 pm.
