Pirates Take Part in Mt. San Antonio Invitational

The Ventura College men's and women's swim teams took part in Saturday's races at the 3-day Mt. San Antonio Invitational with positive results for both squads. Cooper Fuchs was a workhorse for the Pirate men, achieving top-16 results in three individual events along with two relays. Raleigh Mendez placed in two events and with two relays. Meanwhile Katie Heath placed in three individual events for the women and Mikala Cvijanovich scored in two individual events and with two relays for the VC women.

Fuchs had his best finish in the 200 yard backstroke, placing fourth in a time of 2:04.46.  He also came in fifth in the 100 yard freestyle (48.60) and 12th in the 200 yard freestyle (1:52.07). Raleigh Mendez competed in diving on Thursday, placing ninth in the 1m competition and 10th in the 3m springboard event. David Peterson was seventh in the 200 yard butterfly with a mark of 2:09.47. Anthony Amezcua came in 13th in the 1,650 freestyle (18:55.91) while Nathan Cohen (14th, 19:04.93) and Hunter Massey (16th, 19:40.78) also scored in the distance event. Fuchs, Joseph Padilla, Peterson and Mendez teamed up to place eighth in the 400 yard medley relay (3:52.0) while Amezcua, Mendez, Peterson and Fuchs finished in 11th in the 200 yard freestyle relay (1:34.79). 

 Heath came in 12th in both the 1m and 3m springboard diving events, as well as in the 200 yard butterfly. Cvijanovich was the workhorse for the Ventura women, coming in 10th in the 200 yard breast stroke in a time of 2:45.92 and 14th in the 400 yard individual medley at 5:41.29. Sarah Rundle had the best individual finish ofthe day with ninth place in the 200 yard butterfly and Christina Jimenez was 16th in the 1,650 yard freestyle (20:56.44). Katia Flores, Cvijanovich, Adrianna Bese and Gracelyn De La Cruz were eighth in the 400 yard medley relay (4:35.61) and the team of Bese, Cvijanovich, De La Cruz and Kelsey Golden finished 13th in the 200 yard freestyle relay (1:34.79).

The Pirates will next host Bakersfield, Hancock, LA Pierce and LA Valley in the Western State Conference scoring meet No. 1 on Friday March 2 at 11:00 am at the Ventura Aquatic Center.
