Thomas Duckett of the Pirate football team and VC soccer's Audrey Castillo have been named Ventura College's Athletes of the Year for 2018-19.
Duckett, from Pacifica High School in Oxnard, earned All-American, All-State and Northern Conference Offensive Player of the Year honors in leading the Pirates to their most successful year in program history. He rushed for 1,128 yards with 10 touchdowns, and caught 21 passes for another 252 yards and two scores. Adding his 177 return yards, he totaled 1,557 all-purpose yards in leading VC to an 11-2 record an appearance in the CCCAA State Championship Game. He will be transferring to NCAA Division I Southern Utah University.
Castillo is also a Pacifica High School product as she led the VC women's soccer team to its 22nd playoff appearance in the program's 23-year history. She led the conference in scoring with 35 points on 13 goals and nine assists in VC's 10 conference games, earning WSC Co-Player of the Year honors. On the season, she totaled 22 scores and 11 assists for 55 points. She has signed to play at NCAA Division I Eastern Washington University.
